Random Thoughts X (The 9th Regeneration)

I didn't do enough hills in training to keep up with my racing friend on some of those climbs that last day so I held on as long as I could and chased on the descents. I didn't put on a lot of speed on the descents with poor visibility due to curves, but the last two were pretty good and I cranked all the way down easily touching 40 to catch him.

That is my favorite part of the state. We rode one ridge that had the most spectacular views you will get in Iowa on both your right and left. Tremendous.

Was that the stretch from Waukon to the Waterville turnoff on the Elon Road, or from Waterville to the Yellow River turn on 76?

Make sure to say hi to @Bret44 , he's in Charles City now.

Although I think he's busy with assigning swine pens for the state fair.

Haha! I was actually helping out* at the Fairgrounds that day. I am working on stalling today though. It sucks ass.

*Helping = drinking beer at the Craft Beer Tent and hollering at people to stop at the Sting Ray attraction and getting extension cords and picnic tables.

I don't remember being in a greased pig, but was in a chicken catch. Think it was a bicentennial event. Got to keep that thing. Not real fun when your friends are playing games and you have a stinking mad chicken you are holding on to. Would have been 5 at the time.
So you choked a chicken when you were 5 years old, is that correct Mr. BCC? And may I remind you that you are still under oath...

I heard the bars in my town are having some tavern league meeting about the cops in my town. We have one full time officer, and the rest are part-time. Apparently they (the part-time) have been waiting outside the bars and pulling people over for expired plates and broken license plate lights in order to try to get a DUI arrest. That's all I've heard about it.

The cops have been stopping people left and right though for broken lights, mostly license plate lights, expired plates, minor speeding, and going through closed roads at night when no workers are around. One of them will weave in and out of traffic to pull you over like he's in hot pursuit.

My plates expired today and I did get my sticker. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them was waiting for me to leave for work tomorrow morning to check if I have the new sticker. I always make sure to not speed, even 1 mph over, use my turn signal, and come to a complete stop when driving around town.

What the heck town do you live in?
Next time I am in Wisconsin I want to steer clear.

Well, were the lights out, plates expired, etc, or were they making it up? I'm not one to welcome harassment, but the law allows "pretextual" stops so long as the reasonable and articulable suspicion of criminal activity is present. I guess the tavern league can lobby to have the chief of police replaced or something assuming he is appointed by elected officials, but those police may not be violating the Constitution.

Well yeah. What I'm saying is the cops are acting like you're driving a hot car and just committed armed robbery over little stuff like that.
Sorry. I edited my answer after you quoted it. I didn't do that intentionally. I can understand people not liking the way that said cops are enforcing the law. I'm just saying that what they are doing may be supportable legally.

But yeah, I understand that some cops have a real case of "small man's disease" or other control issues and are too gung ho. To say nothing of the really bad ones.

You seem paranoid.

The full time officer has been around a while and so has the chief. Everyone knows them and likes them. The chief wasn't appointed, rather he applied and no one objected. I get that these cops are fairly new and want to be good at their jobs. A couple of them are actually women. Not sure if the chief is ordering the officers to do this or not. I highly doubt it though.
