Cessna is taking aim at Gulfstream with another large business jet. If they keep succeeding it could be the nail in the coffin for Bombardier. Also STOP CHOOSING GARMIN AND HONEYWELL FOR AVIONICS!!!

Back to your regularly scheduled Halloween talk.

....brb, gotta clear my browser and set fire to my computer
Oh. Now I see. That is ... sexy?

SIL sends my wife a vague text saying "being admitted to hospital", and then her and her husband can't be reached for 3 hours.

She has cried wolf with medical drama for so long, I no longer feel worry or empathy. I just go straight to anger and annoyance.

Our oldest is all about the candy. She prefers not to go with friends, because they just slow her down. Two years ago she went with friends and they were too slow for her, they were cold and had to go back home and put more layers on (ours was dressed warm from the beginning), or they would come across other groups of friends and get sidetracked. Ever since she was about 4 she has been all serious business--get candy.

Hubby was a Ghostbuster back in the 80's.
It's going to kill her when she finally ages out. ;)

that's some obnoxious vaguebooking right there.

one time in the land of poor cell service and short battery life during college, I got a voicemail from a sibling saying other sibling had been airlifted after an ATV accident and parents were driving to hospital and wanted me to know. That was quite the panic-inducing message to hear. I was with friends in NE IA and phone was about dead.
I try to call back and have no service. We go to friend's parents' house and they let me call from there. No one answers at home, no one answers the one cell phone that probably wasn't going to work at the hospital anyway. Plus I'm sure things were chaotic and not like siblings at home trying to do chores would really have more info than what they left in the VM.

So I decided I'd call the hospital and see if I could even confirm if he were there. No one by that name there. So I took that to mean he was like dead or something. Called DH and told him to try and get ahold of my siblings if he could (think I had said in my message to call him since my phone was dead and we were about to drive back to Ames). Don't quite remember how it all worked out but one of my siblings called DH who I believe then called me on friend's cell.

Sibling was going to be ok and I had called the wrong hospital. In hindsight, friend and I (who was from our area as well) decided it was good I didn't know which hospital it was because it was the one that you only got sent to if things were extremely dire. It was not our local hospital.

tl:dr: wear a helmet, kids or you risk shaving off some of your skull.

I wish I could blame cell phone coverage or battery or whatever, but my SIL ALWAYS has her phone on her with the ringer ridiculously loud. It's impossible to ignore. Plus I know there is cell coverage in the hospital because even I can get through using our crappy Sprint network.

What really sucks is that my wife's family has a history of having "emergencies" around holidays. My daughter has already missed two years of trick or treating due to some medical emergency that all turned out to be false alarms. We've also made the 8 hour drive to Illinois after work on 3 other occasions, two of them being holiday weekends.

I'm happy that they are fine, of course, but the regularity of the occurrences is too much to ignore. Plus then we are left dealing with another year of disappointment from my daughter for missing trick or treating.

It gets really frustrating. Since my wife lost her parents, grandmother and child, my SIL knows my wife will drop everything to attend to her remaining family, and just manipulates the situation for attention.

kid in a Hawkeye coat just came up. Said I didn't know if I could give him candy. He just like, walked away (he did get candy). No fun kid, no fun.

I enjoyed the little girl that went running back down to her mom, "Mom, I got TWO skittles!" I agree little girl, skittles are the best.
