My oldest daughter wants to be a neurosurgeon. If creepy people start following academic recruiting, I'm in big trouble

What will her college debt look like? Would a HS sophomore be too young or too old? Told my son it never hurts to marry a rich one. Neurologist seems like a strong candidate.

Just the fact that she's a daughter probably gives you a whole other set of (probably old fashioned, and probably unfounded because your kids seem to have good heads on their shoulders) problems to worry about as a dad.

There's a kid in my son's 7th grade class that's been talked to by Gopher football coaches. Evidently he's one of the top two basketball players in the state for his age also. I would expect the basketball coaches to come around pretty soon.

My daughter did a lot of AAU basketball in the TCs. In fourth grade, I would be talking to recruiting head hunters that were there seeing if anything interested them.

I'm encouraging her to consider places like UW-Milwaukee and the University of South Dakota instead of the U of M, Mayo Clinic and Stanford.

My niece is in premed. She looked at Columbia and all those $$$$$ schools. Ended up at Duluth for a year, but due to some medical issues she transferred to Winona to be closer to home Incase anything happened.

My niece just started at K-state last weekend. She had a boyfriend in high school that went to a different college. When I asked her how that was going to work, she told me that they were going to be part of the 5% that make it work.

I have the break-up date as October 3rd in the family pool. My brother predicted some Halloween party fallout and predicted November 2nd. My sister (her mom) said November 15th. My wife went all Price is Right and said September 1st.

On one hand, I sorta feel like a dickhead of an uncle. On the other hand, there's money and bragging rights at stake.

Eh don't feel bad, I was one of those kids who thought it would work. Especially after we made it through the year.

I will say that based on what you're looking for/how you handle it being in a long distance relationship when you're a freshman is actually really underrated. You can really focus on making that strong group of friends you'll want to have during college/after college.

Thankfully no one really cares about the sport my daughter would want to play in college. Can anyone name the new ISU softball coach without looking?

She is going to a classroom session with her softball club on Friday and they will be talking about recruiting. They are supposed to come in with the names of 2 each of D1, 2, 3, NAIA, and JUCO schools they would be interested in. Honestly beyond ISU, I know nothing about other school's softball programs. She isn't focusing on that as her main priority, academics come first. So now before Friday we need to come up with some schools that have both softball and pre-vet/vet schools. I think she would also like to stay close to home. She is so used to living around ISU and going to events that she thinks this is a "small" school.

There is a girl at our school who is going to be a freshman who already signed her letter of intent to play golf at Baylor. Another classmate is open enrolling to Ames (instead of Gilbert) mainly for sports, although she plays AAU so I'm sure has already gotten looks.

What about UW system schools?

Also, this might be a good site for you for this project or when she's looking at schools (and for other posters who will have kids looking at schools) https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/college-search

I know my son will be interested in playing college of some sort. He isn't sure where going into his soph year or what he wants to do. This year I'm going to take him on a few college visits of different size schools to see if there is a school that is too small or too big to just try to limit it. I have told him there are two schools that I won't write a check for because they are too close, IMO. Both have ironically already talked to him about wrestling although he'd probably look at football first.

Watch out for the "professional" recruiting services, I haven't seen many positives there.

Saw a family friend complain on Facebook about not having any help from staff or student helpers when moving their daughter in at UNI today. Apparently with their two older kids who went to private schools they didn't have to carry anything as helpers carried everything. My comment was pretty much "not like there is a tens of thousands students difference or anything".

I do believe that falls under 1st world problems.

Wx, on a unrelated note there was a blurb on the news the other night about those Cirrus (?) airplanes with the chute in them sounds pretty cool, and seems like they work quite well if deployed in the right conditions.

Some couple on WoF didn't know where Venice was. Pat asked what country do you think we're sending you to, the husband first said Paris, then France. Then the wife guessed Italy.

Well, the college I was an instructor at is now officially a university. University instructor just sounds a little nicer than college instructor, although I know there isn't any difference.

Just noticed that any message I get on CF goes to my email also.

Any way to turn that off? Don't need it going both places.

It did that on the old site also at least for me. Maybe drop that question into the bug and feedback threads?

They are awesome planes and I would absolutely LOVE to own one someday. I badly wanted to work there but could never get much attention from them and the Mrs is not a fan of cold and snow soooooo.

They are just downright sexy planes imo.
