Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

CG I thought of you last night when I found out that a friend of an acquaintance of ours is your age and their seventh kid is on the way.

My wife did live on Henderson, but there was a girl that was a couple doors down from her that did a very enthusiastic "roll call" from time to time.

We kept tabs of all of the various names we'd heard over a semester. Any time we'd hear one of the names mentioned at food service, we'd wonder if he was the flavor of the week.
The dorm lunch halls served primordial soup as their main entree.
Yum. Polymers.

Every once in a while when I'm reading a news item, I see a name and just wonder what the hell the parents were thinking.

"During the investigation, another man, Trashone Coats, 23, was charged with Illegal possession of a stolen firearm after detectives recovered two handguns that he allegedly bought illegally on the street."

When they say the name, the syllables probably split between the a and the s...but I read it as splitting between the h and the o.

It seems like the superfans are trying to take over all the Lard threads.

I heard they were serving brats. I came for the brats.

People are way too involved in the every day doings of high school and college kids. Frankly, it's kind of scary. I feel sorry for those of you with kids, especially if any of them end up growing into being into the position of being a recruited athlete.

You saying that there will NOT be brats? Not encouraging. Disappointed.

I am guessing these things are location based since I have never visited a gophers site. If that means I am going to start seeing ku ads I'm going to be pissed.

Agree on the social media stalking of recruits. I know I'll piss some people off but it's super creepy.

Adults honestly should just leave the kid alone, unless it's a family friend. Having been around a few kids that I know that are now college athletes, unfortunately the kids love this stuff. Many want the attention and have made it worse. You will not believe the age that these kids get looked at. Doing anything outside your town and some coach will be there. I've had two smaller college coaches already approach me about my son before he finished 7th grade. They can't "officially" recruit, but it is just side stepping certain words or phrases.

My oldest daughter wants to be a neurosurgeon. If creepy people start following academic recruiting, I'm in big trouble

Yeah, pretty much as soon as I became older than the recruits, I was like this is creepy watching old people fawn over 17-18 year olds playing sports.

There's a kid in my son's 7th grade class that's been talked to by Gopher football coaches. Evidently he's one of the top two basketball players in the state for his age also. I would expect the basketball coaches to come around pretty soon.
