CG, congrats on the win. I always loved long rallies. They usually showed how evenly matched you were.

You need to step up your game on the dodgeball recaps, though. I actually slid to the edge of my seat reading the volleyball update. I used the whole damn seat for dodgeball.

haha, it was such a fun, intense game! I'll try harder for dodgeball. It's harder with that one vs. like kickball, because you don't always get to see the interesting stuff that happens around you if you're very focused on yourself not getting hit.

There were so many rain delays for our spring kickball that now Thursdays in the fall will only be 4 weeks instead of 8 so we may have to do a different night.

I'm also equal parts impressed and disappointed that nobody made a 'balls to the face' joke about DH.

yeah nobody caught that. On the ride home Dh was like "nobody even asked me how I was" I'm like we all got distracted cause we had to keep playing it! I told him good job for being tall enough that the ball could hit his face and still have enough hang time to stay off the ground.

Yeah. Definitely a hard thing to impress on this age group right now. No Means do not do it.

Grandnephews last visit reinforced how "No" for an adult means no but these kids seem to have channeled their inner Eskimo (50 words for snow) and created 50 levels of no.

Spoken: No!
Heard: No but not really, no for right now but expires in 60 seconds, no for my brother but yes for me, etc

My sophomore year, we played this Brazilian team in the finals for intramurals. They were crazy good with quick sets, back row hits, jump serves, etc. We had played them several times in the rec center during pick up games and they usually got the best of us (probably 90% of the time).

They had this one dude that was about 5'9, maybe 5'10" tops, but he had insane hops and a cannon for a spike. I've still never played against anyone that hit harder than him.

During the final set, we were tied and I was in the back row. He gets set wide and I see him getting ready to go hard cross. I take off to get into place. Our blocker decides to split block him, leaving a gaping hole where I wasn't planning. My momentum is going forward with my arms stretched out and this guy crushes a spike right between my blocker's arms and directly (and painfully) into my face.

My head snapped back enough to allow me to watch the ball go nearly 30 feet into the air, over the net, over their defense, and land right on the back corner for our point.

Unfortunately this isn't Disney, so we ended up losing the match and a chance at another t-shirt. However, I had a magnificent black eye for weeks and a story that still gets re-told when I talk to my old college friends.

Side note: I'm pretty sure I was the inspiration for the whole Scott Sterling phenomenon. I should look at collecting some royalties.

CG now has a Hickey on her butt from you kissing it so long and hard.

Here is your obligatory ball to the face reference.

Tree business is just not cutting it anymore (pun slightly intended). There's a job open right now that I'm interested in, but I found out today one of the guys I work with is taking a job at a local elementary school, and the other guy is starting school soon. I didn't get a chance to talk to my boss today about it today. I'd feel really bad for leaving when everyone else is and I'm worried that my boss won't be able to find anyone good to work for him, but I got to do what I got to do right?

Absolutely. If you get the different job try to give as much notice as practical but opportunities don't pick "right" times etc, they just happen when they happen.

That's right. You can be respectful and honest and still say you're leaving. Your boss is used to turnover and he will deal with it.

If you are the last of these guys leaving, be prepared to receive an offer from him to stay. You may need to make another decision after that but don't feel like you need to stay just because he offers you a wage increase. You do what's best for you.

This.

I know my boss is not happy with the fact that I have applied to and interviewed for several internal jobs. Thankfully though she understands and I have been very open about the fact that there is little to no growth for me in my current role I have to move to a different area to really do anything.

If he has an issue with it that is on him.

The guy who I was hired back to train and mentor to do my old tasks dropped me a note last week and asked me if he could use me as a reference on a job application outside my old workplace. I said sure and if they called me I'd give him a pretty darn good referral. Looked at the job description and agency and he would be great fit and probably happier. Would mean I wasted a good part of my time over the last year if he leaves but what the hell, big picture is his career and life and he's a great young guy.

scoring points off your face is pretty cool. Nice job, cooler.

JC, one of the couples in our friends group are Scottish and English. It becomes especially entertaining when Scottish guy is drinking.
Everything's funnier when you're drinking and have an accent from the British Isles. I find the Scottish accent to be particularly enjoyable.
