But you didn't fall for the siren song of Jesse Ventura?

My uncle who lives in MN voted for him - and calls it the biggest mistake he's ever made in the voting booth.

Nope. Voted that day and then drove north for work. Was staying in a hotel that night in Grand Rapids and remember watched the talking heads from both major parties stammering around trying to figure out what the hell had just happened.

Jesse was sort of a big joke but he didn't actually permanently mess Minnesota up too much during his one term if you discount going from a big surplus to a big deficit in just four years (+$4B to -$4B). Issuing $2B in rebates checks was probably not a great idea when coupled concurrently with lots of tax reform and cuts and a 30% bump in spending in his biennial budget!

Not a good year for gas leaks in this city, between the explosion in the old market and now this one. Super sad and totally preventable in this instance.
That's the real tragedy in this latest situation. If they had just made the proper call the neighborhood could have been evacuated and the gas shut off down the line so it could dissipate.

And a little mishmash of old pins I recently found in a shoe box. Yeah, shoe box of stuff from the attic, classic. 12-year old Boxster likely picked up the 1964 ones at the party booths at the Delaware County Fair which was only a block from the parental homestead.

Kinda cool - My high school alma mater just won the semifinal game against the top-ranked team and is heading to the state finals in baseball.

They had a great 7th inning. Listened to it since Newman was in our conference until last year and my sons first varsity game last year, as an 8th grader, was against them.

The son of a classmate of mine plays on the team. I'm not sure exactly when it happened, but somehow I became older than I thought I was.

I have classmates who have been grandparents for a while. I realized I was really old this year during soccer for my youngest. Parents vs kids, I hung out and felt more comfortable with the grandparents.

Jesse was voted in by young people. I was 30 the year he was voted in and I was way too old to be voting for Jesse. Boxster was even wiser than me at the time.

Jesse made one campaign promise and that was to give back the full surplus. He didn't keep that promise and that was for the best. As governor I believe his actual agenda consisted of 2 things, lowering the taxes on personal watercraft and lowering the taxes on luxury automobiles. He accomplished those two items and didn't really have any other agenda other than promote Jesse Ventura.

You are roughly the same age as my parents, and my dad likes to give my mom crap for "working" for Goldwater in '64.

When I was a kid election night was always no mom night since she worked as an election official and it was one of those rare nights she was not home. I would describe her as a Dewey Republican, maybe an Eisenhower Republican who became increasing less enthused about her party as she grew older. We didn't talk politics much at all but as an elderly lady she was getting pissed about all of the fund raising stuff and when Bush was going to be in town she was not happy it was a pay to attend deal. She was thinking "Oh, the President of thee United States of America is going to be in little old Manchester and everyone will be able see him" then found out is was just a party only fund raiser.
