Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

On my way into work this morning, I had a realization that I forgot to contact my dad on Father's Day.

I've done similar with my parents birthdays. You have enough siblings that he probably can't keep track of who does and doesn't contact him anyway. I have only three kids and can't remember to use the correct name more than half the time. I've now started occasionally using my wife's and sister's names when talking to my kids.

We went to the Minneapolis Farmer's Market this Sunday. I had a slice of rhubarb crisp. It was pretty good but Boxster's looks like it would be better.

Have sort of decided Sundays are a do nothing go nowhere day unless there's something others have planned for us.

Been doing some catching up on classic old movies. Never been a real "movie" guy and haven't been to a public theater since 2007. Usually there's something on AMC or TCM or one of the local dot channels that I haven't seen before.

Yesterday I watched 3:

Some Like it Hot - I've seen most of it before but never from the beginning. I didn't remember it being in B&W.

Marty - Heard a lot about it over the years. Some how could never imagine Ernest Borgnine acting winning the Oscar. It was a worthy performance. Also B&W.

Spender In the Grass - Heard OF it but had no idea what the story line was. Never a huge Warren Beatty fan, and this did nothing to change that. Very "James Dean-ish" performance. Lots of anguish and inner turmoil, etc.

Sounds a lot like the Lion in Winter. Being the favorite, you would be like Prince John (hopefully you're not actually like Prince John). Does you dad have a young mistress? If so, be leary of her as she may ask that you and all your siblings be imprisoned.

I generally agree with this. The speculation about whether he's the subject of that one Carly Simon song is way more interesting than his character in most movies.

Hopefully, if she paid $400 on sandals it's these. Dual purpose shoes. At least these would save you about $12 at Subway.

I really like the tower of London. I thought it was really well done

We did a day tour when we were there, then did a morning at the Tower. Then we did a "self-guided" tour - we bought passes for the underground and rode all over the area, getting off whenever the stop looked interesting. We had a blast doing that...and saw a lot of "non-touristy" places off the beaten path.

My brother (the hok fan) is coming home sometime in September. He mentioned taking our dad to a football game....not sure if I want to suck it up and go to a hok game, or not. Although, if they could lose to north dakota, it might be worth being there.

Missed the hail part seen it was raining cats and dogs, huge climb and that rain it must have been a ***** of a ride. Heard the announcers talk about Froome's attack on the downhill yesterday topped out at 55+mph. I would like to see a replay/clip of that, that had to be cray.

I would say that Froome was decending like a stone, but stones don't drop that fast. Even more crazy is that Peter Sagan descended at at least 97 Kph (60+) and possibly even faster when he was rejoining the group in yesterday's stage. That dude is one crazy bike handler.
