Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

Also, my brown dress shoes have been misappropriated by a spider(s). When I went to pick up one of the shoes, I noticed that it is full of spider webs inside. I thought about vacuuming it out, but then got to thinking there might be spider eggs or something else in there. No, thanks. Straight into the garbage. I'll wear my other pair.

Had relatives live in New Zealand for a while and spent a good bit of time in Australia. Said that you shook your shoes out every day and stored them upside down (not sure that does much) otherwise you got surprises like funnel web, black widow, and redback spiders.

Cowboys know to always shake out their boots every morning when sleeping on the range. They are warm when you take them off and they can attract all sorts of nasty critters looking for a warm bed. Only forget once and you might get a nasty surprise from a small snake or scorpion.

It's supposed to be in the 90s here Thursday through the weekend, not looking forward to it.
We have our 30th annual poker run for Spina Bifida on Saturday. It's going to be a scorcher.

Speaking of puritans, have you watched The Witch? That movie was full of dread and atmosphere. I liked it quite a bit.

Slasher films are also not my favorite, but there is room in the genre to create some decent ones here and there. I do enjoy the ones with a bit more action like High Tension or The Collection.
I really enjoyed The Witch. I would have done the ending a bit differently but that's just me. The director did a great job of building tension.

So many people want some sort of comic relief in horror because they say it breaks the tension. I am just the opposite, I want the tension to just build and build. That was one thing about High Tension. Once it started going it just didn't let up.

I have to agree that you see better horror coming from other countries. Even if a decent horror movie gets made some studio latch on and make sequel after sequel of crap.
IE: Nightmare on Elm Street.

We have a family reunion in Tama county on Saturday that neither of us want to go to. Thankfully it is at least in a building with A/C. Then MrsWx has shows at TCR Friday/Saturday nights and Sunday afternoon. She enjoys doing them but I am more than happy to have it over so we can actually do stuff again.

You are doing stuff, her stuff be more supportive you self centered, uncaring chauvinist. ;)

I know. Even though I am not a fan of how much time it takes up I try and be as supportive as possible since she really enjoys doing it and is around the house all day she obviously really wants to get out.

Random thought I had driving to work this morning. Does the radio dude have all of the road and lane closures in the CR and IC area memorized yet?

Well it's gotta be pretty easy at this point. Edgewood, Collins and C Ave have all been under construction for 17.3 years.

Where we finish is a fairly large hall that will be air conditioned but we have a band for outdoors. We already had a tent for them and just ordered some sort of portacool unit that we will set up by the band to try to keep them cool. At least they don't start playing until the evening so between the tent, shade and the cooler we hope they don't melt

Also, I can't wait till C Ave opens back up and they undo what they did at that intersection with Blairs Ferry. There will be mass confusion/chaos/accidents. I'm just gonna post up at Third Base and watch the carnage.

The thing I can't figure out for the life of me is why they have the right turn lane from C Ave north to Collins East blocked when you can do that. It is even more fun during the day when they are working on the median so the left lane of Collins is closed and the right turn lane is closed to get onto it.

Speaking of construction I went to a soccer game last night and on the drive we encountered one of those overpasses where they switch the traffic to the left side and back again. None of the traffic then has to cross oncoming traffic to get to a ramp. It is pretty clever but definitely weird.

Diverging diamond kind of like this:

Yah. I know. And I like how they're hand laying bricks on the Collins median. Who gives a ****? Just pour concrete and get it over with. I try my best to not travel on Collins if I have to. I try to make a U shape from Center Point to Blairs to 1st Ave.

Slept in till 900 this morning. Excuse is I am still fighting off Euro Death Lung and want to bike this afternoon.

Was figuring midmorning paper read and java on the deck but no newspaper. Almost enough to make me go curmudgeon. Missed more paper deliveries in the last six months then in the previous 20 years. When it is delivered it's like a hide and seek game because it's landed about everywhere but the roof.
