Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

I mean, he owes me for my birthday. that wasn't his fault though, my dad called late to chat, as is his tendency. I debated not answering but I wanted to ask how his finger was doing after chopping it off.

Are several but most important. Did he or you chop off his finger?

my dad did it to himself via sticking his hand into a running straw chopper to unclog it. No, he doesn't know WTF he was thinking. Still has the finger, but said it's taking a long time to heal. Said the surgeon hasn't seen one like this before, they either get infected and amputated or heal fast. But his finger got smashed so a lot of bruising vs. just a clean cut kinda thing. Sounds like he'll keep it though.

so yeah, my mom texted me late one night like a month ago being like "leaving the ER, your dad cut off a finger"

I wasn't really sure what my response was supposed to be.

did I not tell you guys about this? I think I told KC or someone via pm at least. You can ask, I may not answer.

1. You didn't get a birthday lay?
2. If he owes you, why is he shower cleaning?
3. Wouldn't you be the one that's determining it if it's owed to you?
4. You chose talking to your dad over boning?
5. Why is it common for him to call super late?
6. How did he lose his finger?

I that's about it.

no
maybe to pay his debt? more likely because the rust stains were bugging him and he knows some of the attendees tomorrow weren't here NYE and thus may want a house tour
yes and I was considering it "on hold" so I think it's more the above than being "owed"
well he rarely calls and he was calling to wish me happy birthday. I knew I had a three day weekend ahead of me so it was ok.
he'll call when he's done doing some of his night chores. Which is like 11pm because he has been like that since I went to college and nobody gets **** started before like 8pm. Also because his downtime during the day tends to be when I'm at work. And chore time is when I'm at home.
see my reply to BC, got caught in a pulley I think. Which is ironic considering pulleys and augers are like things farm kids are warned to stay the hell away from, from birth.

Mrs. Velo's grandfather years ago got his overalls caught in an auger or PTO shaft, I can't remember which. He was by himself and he couldn't get it free nor get the overalls off. Finally, luckily, his overalls tore - the machine literally ripped the clothes clean off of him. He walked home stark naked. You know how they say "so sore I couldn't sit down for a week"? He literally was. He was also extremely lucky to be alive.

CG sorry about your dads' finger, hope it heals well for him. I have a good friend who lost some fingers in a corn picker long before I met him. How is your youngest brothers' transition to non-farm life going?

WDSM congrats on the new house.

KC congrats on the new car.

Think I mentioned this before here. Going though old stuff and found a letter my dad had sent me in college. Told how he was driving his delivery truck into a farm yard and everyone was freaking out cause a guy had just gotten his leg badly mangled in an auger. Channeled his old WWII combat medic experience and got a tourniquet on the leg and stopped the bleeding til the ambulance came. After that he started carrying a tourniquet kit in the truck.

I actually didn't have even one question regarding CG post of interest from last night. Read it, thought "oh,my" and logged off and went to bed.

Were you drinking heavy?

One Heineken, one Summit Pale Ale, one aged sirloin, some baked beans, hearts of romaine salad, Old Amsterdam cheese, and rhubarb crisp with ice cream. And even though it's Minnesota, I didn't do any Xanax, the Gophers drug of champions.

It's best to just accept the delightful things in life, like classic CG posts, without questioning them.

I think it's going well, haven't chatted with him lately
