second pair of Asics just arrived to try. But becoming more convinced I need a neutral shoe. Have to see about trying more on this weekend.

So I am thinking about getting more serious about the whole running for fitness/fun thing and was talking with a friend. They suggested going to Running Wild (A local running store) to get shoes so I know that they are good, will fit and what not. He said he spends $130-$150 on a pair and goes through 2 ish pairs a year. Is that normal?

Some of the neighbor ladies that run have gone to the local running store to see what shoes they recommend and then buy the shoes online for cheaper. They do feel a little guilty about it, though.

That's a typical price for a new version. I try to buy behind and get them for $120 or less. Mileage is usually how you measure the lifetime. Something like 400 miles or so (or when they start feeling unsupportive). I've had my current pair since Nov '14. I'm overdue but unless you get really serious into it, I would think you could get away with one pair a year.

I've gotten fitted a couple times - first was pretty helpful as I was very new to working out in general. I probably would have gotten a too-small size without their help. Second time a few weeks ago I was less enthused. Running stores generally only carry the newest version (more expensive) and she was trying to push special shoe inserts on me. Research online makes me think that that person wasn't the best.

I would say do a bit of research beforehand to see what types of shoes there are. Try on the shoes they give you, see how they feel - definitely run on a treadmill or something and then go home and research the shoes. I like solereview and runner's world. Let's say they give you the Ghost 9 or something and you like it. But it's $160. Go home and check reviews and see how much different they say the 8 is from the 9.

Erik is a good bit more experienced than me though so he may have a better idea.

I've tried a few times over the years to get myself into running. When I did crossfit I was in excellent shape, but never did anything beyond a 10K for a workout, and really had no desire to either.

I've been toying with the idea of working on my running simply because I think Lulu would really enjoy it. There's a small lake near where I live, the loop around it is 1.6 miles and if you include the distance to and from my apartment, it should be close to 2 total. I think that would be a manageable distance to do a few times a week, and to force myself to get fit again.
