Not really the main reason I like it. I like it because basketball season and I like wear sweatshirts and coats.
So we found out the other day it will cost $3,800 to fix my car. So we are now looking for a new vehicle and trying to figure out how to get rid of the current one.
That is what the wife wants and I would just take her Equinox. I am not totally against it but I want a decent van that is going to last us a long time. Her parents just always bought what they could somewhat afford and that means they have a good chunk of car issues (their Odyssey's engine sounds interesting and just stuff like that). To me this means I want to buy something with lowish miles and not from just random *** places.
Have an open mind with vans as well...I know I said I'd never buy a brand new vehicle, but when we were looking at vans, it seemed that you'd find one 3 years old with 50K miles and only 5K less than brand new. Toyota and Honda don't depreciate that fast. We ended up buying a model year end one about this time of year, was the last 2011 on the lot and got a pretty good deal on it down in Moline.
I like snow, just hate the ice and driving that comes with it. I have a solid two miles to drive to work, so that could also be a reason why it isn't that bad.
Good point. If that is the route we go we will hold off until sometime in the spring to buy then so we can save more. Regardless we won't be buying until the end of the year at the earliest.
Model year end is around this time of year...most 2016's are already out and dealers are trying to get rid of '15's now.
We don't normally get numerous feet of snow in KC, so I can't say I really mind winter either. It kills the bugs, basketball season keeps me occupied, and I don't have to mow the lawn. I drive 22 miles one way to work, and I really only have 2 or 3 days a year where the commute sucks due to snow.
Also, the holiday feels more festive and Christmas lights look better if there's a little snow around. I spent one Christmas in Tucson for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. It was pretty cool lounging by a pool opening gifts, but it really never felt like Christmas.
Plus, my daughter and I have a tradition of a surprise indoor snowball ambush at least once a season. Last year, I got her on a Saturday morning on the couch while she was watching the Disney channel. She got me during an afternoon nap.
We laugh. My wife, not so much.

In terms of driving, rain here is to Hawaiians what snow is to everyone else. I've never seen such panic and fear from drivers as I see when it rains. You'd think that lava is flowing down from the mountains the way people's swerve to avoid puddles.
I'm sure I've mentioned it before but the last time I was in Hawai'i the first thing I saw on TV was an announcement of a winter storm warning. Even in Hawai'i I couldn't get away from winter.
Yep, and have copies at my apartment as well as emergency contact info for my US and UK people.
