What job do you think would be fun bdk? You are a 16 year old living in a college town, remember that you are not really in high demand as far as the work force goes.

So today is school picture day (which I hate--too much stress). Anyway I was giving my 10yr old options for what to wear. I thought this shirt would be good, until I realized the Eiffle Tower would get cut off in the pic. No bueno.

(Sorry if pic is sideways, you get the idea . . . )
Yes. Good catch. Although that would be a pretty awesome blackmail pic to have later on.

Be a parking attendant for football and basketball games. Or work at the dining center. Look on the student job boards.

So I just moved to a new suburb in the cities and today was trash day. Had a lot of boxes for moving and put them in with the trash (TV boxes and ceiling fans so styrofoam and stuff). Not sure which came first, guessing trash, but I got home to styrofoam scatter throughout the front yard. I placed those boxes with the trash can so I am guessing the trash guy came took the can only and left everything else. Recycling came took the cardboard and left the styrofoam free in the yard. Kind of ****** at both right now.
Our sanitation service will only take what fits in the bins. We have a tendency to overfill ours and have an informal neighborhood agreement (I should work on drawing up a formal contract. It should probably involve giving me beer) that nobody cares if you need to put extra garbage in each others bins. The garbage bins have that weird shape like yours so large pizza boxes don't fit neatly in the bottom of it.

Oh. Well nvm then.

Then be happy you make $8 an hour. Become a bus boy, Hy-Vee, Fareway, Wal-Mart etc. You can't be picky at 16. Get the job experience and work ethic.

yeah I'm pretty sure DH started off at like 4-5 an hour at a grocery store. Granted that was (OMG!) just over 10 years ago now, but I know that place still doesn't pay min wage to PT kids in high school. I doubt it's much more than $6 right now. $8/$8.50 an hour is pretty good for a high school kid.

Isn't minimum wage like $7.25?

So at 12:30 last night I was awakened by the 12 y.o. boy.

Boy: Dad, I have stomach cramps.
Me: Have you tried pooping?
Boy: Yes.
Me: Let's try again. Do you want to use our bathroom or the kids bathroom?
Boy: Ohhhh.
Me: Where does it hurt?
Boy: Here. (points to lower left abdomen)
Me: Let's go into our bathroom.

While he's in there I go out and inspect the house to make sure nothing bad happened anywhere. Everything seems fine except that just about every light on the first floor and his bedroom, the hallway and the kid's bathroom lights are on upstairs. I google lower left abdomen pain in children. Find out it's probably not appendicitis and decide that is good. I recognize most of the other terms and can eliminate most of them except blockage and gas. I then realize that I can't quite place the term Endometriosis. I Google that. OK, he doesn't have that.

Me: Have you pooped?
Boy: No
Me: Have you farted?
Boy: A little.
Me: Do you feel any better?
Boy: Not really.
Me: Drink this water.
He drinks the water.
Me: Let's go lie down in my bed for a while. Do you want to watch some TV to take your mind off of it?
Boy: Sure.
I can't find the remote and turn on the TV manually. Mrs. JCyclonee notifies us that she lost the remote. We can't change the channel and the boy is forced to watch HGTV. This makes him tired and he retires to his bed.

He woke up this morning, ate his cinnamon toast that I made for breakfast and decided that wasn't filling enough so he grabbed one of those little packages of bread sticks with cheese before I realized he had done this. When I realized that he had done this it was almost gone. This is a good sign that he feels better.

So there are 2 morals to this long and boring story. "If your boy can't sleep force him to watch HGTV." & "Never be scared to ask your kids direct questions about pooping and farting."

Heh...good catch, Birdy.

Mrs 00 had a mini-birdy schedule last night. Had soccer practice for little00 at 5:30, and she gets home from work and picking up kids at about 5:15, so her schedule went: Pick up kids. Run home (because little00 had to poop, but didn't want to poop at daycare ), run to Casey's for subs, go to soccer practice, her and littlest00 ate at practice, come home where little00 ate while she got littlest00 ready for bed. Read to littlest00 and put him down, sit for a bit, then repeat the process with little00.

Four of us were eating reheated pizza for supper at 8pm last night. ;) It was mostly my doing because oldest had softball practice at 6pm in Bondurant--let the little girls play at the playground there for awhile before heading home because it was so nice out. Then the Bookmoblie was at Fareway so we stopped on our way home because we had a ton of books and movies to return. Then once I had pizza in the oven, neighbor boy stopped by with his fundraising sales pitch (had turned him away twice because we were busy/heading out). So pizza at 8, baths, oldest got home at 9, goodnight and books and bed. By the time all that is done for 4 kids, we barely are up long enough to watch the news and go to bed ourselves.

Rulzzz, sorry for your loss. Cancer sucks ***. **** cancer.

Birdy, good save, but that would have been pretty funny.

Jcyclonee, that remote should be on your nightstand where it belongs, man!

isulive2train, happy belated birthday. I missed yesterday

BDK, sounds like you are too proud to work at McDonalds and it has nothing to do with the wages. Suck it up. You're not gonna get sympathy from anyone here. I'm pretty sure most everyone else on here have probably done worse/harder work for less pay. Besides, McD's money spends just fine.

If you don't like it, try detasseling or baling hay. Say hi to the spiders for me.

His anti-McD's stance is solely based on the fact that they kicked him and his buddies out and "banned" them for being douchecanoes.

$8.00 X 40hr/wk X 52 week

$16,640 per year before taxes. I can see how Iowa's season ticket numbers are down.
