Someone else is vacationing there right now...don't remember who; too lazy to look upthread & find it. Sucks to plan a great vacay and have it interrupted by a hurricane...

and that stick figure family.People seem to love that for some reason.

I saw one on the way in this morning that made me laugh. Mom, dad, little kid, two medium kids. Little kid is just standing there. Dad & two medium kids all have their arms raised up in "Touchdown!" signal. MOM has the football, her arm cocked back, getting ready to throw a pass. Melikey! :)

I heard on the news this morning that it was just a tropical storm by the time it hit the big island. Lot's of power outages on the big island and Maui, but not near as bad as it could have been if still a hurricane. Kind of crazy to think a hurricane can miss the Hawaiian islands and blast a ship as a typhoon a couple of thousand miles later.

A rose by any other name...

oh vey, thank goodness it's Friday. I asked one of those simple "so why are you doing this this way" questions and discovered that they shouldn't have been doing it that way at all. Several people missed something very obvious that will cause much extra work for a lot of people because they didn't just run it by me first. Which they should have, since they were just taking over the process from me. I've been staying out of it because they are adults and once the initial training was done, I figured they would ask me questions if they had them. They needed help on something related today and I happened to catch the boo-boo. SMH.

How is the weather where you are at, cyrocksmykhakipants? The national news keeps talking about the Hawaii storms.

As previously noted, I got out of Dodge beforehand. I've been keeping track though, as I have employees and staff on the Big Island. They're going to have massive flooding issues though. Oahu is supposed to get 2-3 inches, but on an island at sea level with a mountain in the middle of it, that can add up and do some damage.

so is your house that's close to the beach going to be a pontoon boat when you get back? Or is future coral reef more correct?

It IS close enough where that would be a concern, but the builders planned for it and put the house up off the ground so it gives some room for flooding without hurting anything. But, it depends on the flooding. 2-3 inches means total accumulation, but rain comes down from the mountains and can flood streams and canals and if you're down mountain, 2 inches can quickly add up to 10-12.

The Weather Channel had video of some of the Big Island streets flooding that showed a pretty good picture of how it can be. They were at about 8 inches of rain but the streets were flooding at probably over two feet of water.
