The one over by college square?

I'll never forget the old college square Hy-Vee. 9/11, I was at my GF (now Mrs00)'s apartment. I had been laid off from my first college job a few weeks earlier (they closed the plant). She had gotten a job back home when she graduated a few years earlier...basically waiting for me to graduate and get married, then she'd move...the plans were slowed by me getting laid off. Was just about to get in the shower and start looking for jobs on her parents' computer (she had an apartment like 2 blocks from them) when they started talking about a plane hitting the WTS. Watched until the second plane hit, wondering whether it was an accident or something....watched TV the rest of the day.

So, Hy-Vee. Her parents had season tix for UNI football, and part of it was a coupon book for Hy-Vee. They were out of town that weekend, and gave us the coupon book. That week was a free (or really cheap, I can't remember) bucket of chicken. So my sole job that day was to go get the bucket of chicken. Went over in the afternoon, and the store was dead...both shoppers and workers. The few people that were in there were also waiting for their chicken, like me. There was like one worker there, so she had to make the chicken, load it up, then hustle up to the register to ring us up. She was all apologetic, telling me 'sorry for the wait', and I said...don't worry about it...the way today went, I'm not gonna complain about slow service on a free bucket of chicken.

I'll never forget it....heh...

Oh, and fiteen...if you're doing a blog about travelling and cooking, you have to do at least one experiment with cooking in the engine compartment.

don't even let them know about Woodman's.

The Sentry by us closed and it's been so long I can't remember - that's the only grocery store I'm not sure about. The rest have grocery store sized liquor stores attached.

I love Woodman's. Except when it's busy and there's no room to stand in line to checkout. The one in Janesville is being remodeled and they have like 5 cashiers working. Their new liquor store is great. Still smaller than Beloit's, but has more of a selection.

There's a couple Sentry's in Janesville still. I do believe they're the only ones that don't sell alcohol, but I'm not 100% sure.

we were there last Saturday at like 5 and two of the registers were waiting for people to come to them. First time I've ever not had to wait at a Woodman's. And it was odd because usually when I go, it's Sat afternoon. The one here has probably 20 checkouts. Gosh, probably more than that. Usually at least ten open and always people waiting.
