And speaking of which...CG...tell him to also get some jack stands with his jack, rotate tires when he's changing oil. You can do that while the oil is draining/filling.

I haven't asked, but I imagine he has plans to do stuff like this as well. He has the ramps for doing under car work but I don't know if he was planning on getting jack stands

Hey, Wxman, watching Smithsonian channel special on DC-3's.

I am SO old that I actually flew a United Airlines DC-3 from CR to Omaha to Denver when I was a kid. Than DC-6 to LA. Got my United "wings" somewhere that the flight attendent gave 8-year old Boxster. :)

Nice! I would need to check but I am 95% sure my dad and grandparents would take that DC-3 to Omaha to visit my great grandparents.

The Comemerative Air Force recently bought and is in the process of restoring the C-47 (military version of the DC-3) that led the D-Day invasion. To help fund the restoration they did a good fund me and the $250 donation level got you a ride in it. It was tempting to pull the trigger.

I miss rain..

They sign releases.

but they can just film whomever before they sign a release then? Because the guy with a concussion and brain bleed certainly wasn't in condition to sign a release before they started filming him. What if it turns out a patient never wanted to be filmed at all? Didn't want a group of strangers not involved in their medical treatment following them around the hospital before they were able to sign/not sign a release?

Here are the pictures I took of the DC-3 from the Smithsonian. Really cool to see the plane that was such a huge influence in aviation.

After a busy weekend and the fact that I'm not sure that I want to skim through all the pages I missed; I want to know how WDSM's party was. Hope it was a fail for being so exclusive to only the beautiful, young pervs/stalkers. Also, is the over 30 party in Hawaii off since Pants won't pay for all of our tickets and won't be in Omaha at Perkins?

My body still hurts, but was a success

Exactly. The whole point of going to college is to get a job, work that job, make money and pay people to do their job.

PapaLew insisted that the boys help whenever he was working on their cars, to learn how to do things like change the oil, replace a tranny, etc. One of our sons (who is significantly mechanically challenged) had to help change a timing belt in his car. When they finally finished it (after a full weekend spent in grease & sweat), PapaLew asked him if he felt confident that he could repair cars now. He responded "no, I feel confident that I am going to graduate, go to college, and get a job where I earn enough money to pay someone else to fix my damn cars".

Incentive. He's an asst director of res life at a power 5 university now. He pays someone else to fix his cars. :)

Daddy always referred to DC's as built by "brand X". ;)

Man, this whole string of conversation within this thread...You're right, and PapaLew knew what he was doing, because sometimes it IS about something more than the act of changing oil.

A friend of mine, like the one true friend I've gained post-college, I've been trying to get us talking about deeper stuff than 'how 'bout them cubs?'. Their family is very budget conscious, his wife gave up a very good salary to work for the church and spend more time with the kids (they're pregnant with their 4th). Just because I enjoy doing it, I suggested that he should come over and we'd change the oil in their cars together, save them a little. He did, we had a good time, talked some stuff with our dirty, oily hands. Didn't think much of it, but the other night at a church thing, he said he wanted to do more of that, and really talk real stuff...mentioned he's stressing over this 4th kid on the way. Later found out he's going thru some stuff related to that, causing a little internal struggle with the wife...not that she's mad at him, she's concerned about him.

I've been friends with the guy for a year or two now, but it wasn't until we did the oil change that he opened up.

Gotta get something planned soon.

didn't 2015 get an offer from Amazon?

Sounds like he dodged a bomb.

Yea, I knew immediately I didn't wanna work there when I arrived for the interview. Most people at Amazon work two years to get a bonus on your two year anniversary and then bail. I thought all this was more public knowledge than it turned out to be. If I would've accepted, it purely would've been for a resume boost, not a long term thing.

2015 couldn't handle the snu-snu.
I like my women petite anyway. Half-dated/talked to a girl taller than me for a bit in college, I just couldn't do it.

Although I say pay someone to do your car stuff it's not like I never did car stuff. Used to do the basics on the old Nova and it was something I did with my dad. My dad was not much of a mechanic but liked doing this with me. With a small warehouse full of oil I usually got the free oil deal! Box in the trunk had oil, anti-freeze, spare thermostat, extra radiator hoses because god knows you can't drive from Manchester to Ames without all of the just in case stuff!

The old Nova had a straight six in an engine bay built for a V-8. No air conditioning. No power steering. No power brakes. Nothing but the engine running down the middle and open space on both sides. Pretty much stopped working on cars when I popped open the hood on my new '88 Honda Accord and the only thing I could recognize was the oil stick. What the hell is all of this stuff and how the hell did they cram it into this small space!

Today I can't even see the engine bay on the enclosed mid-engine Boxster.

Yeah, and it's great knowledge to have, don't get me wrong. I know HOW to do basics with a car, like chance oil, change a flat, etc. I just choose to pay someone to do it. In my own personal opinion, my time is more valuable to me doing something else than the cost of the oil change.

sounds like the environment for Epic up here. They pay for a 6 week? month? sabbatical if you make it to four years.

Most don't.
And they have a crazy non-compete, I've been told, so you can't work for the hospitals or many of the other major tech companies here for a year.

Epic was far too hipsterish for me. But I do believe it is a 6 week sabbatical.
