is that a quote from something or a legit thing? I'm not a huge fan of that dip. I thought about doing something with chipotle aioli dip but didn't know what. I like that on burgers and sweet potato fries. But I'm not taking those.

It's my quote. And it's a sad day when somebody says that they do not like that dip.

Bottom line, using the dam safety issue as an excuse to spend millions is just a smoke screen to justify the expense of the most expensive option on the table.

edited to correct multiple spelling errors!

Oh, I'm not arguing with you there, I was only pointing out that this is becoming a 'thing' partially because there is a demand to remove the low head dams...and of course, there are people who want the business, the expensive business of creating a whitewater dealyo, so they tout their BS and talk the folks into creating a 'destination'...which is also a hotbutton for places like Manchester, Charles City, Elkader, and Quasqueton...that are looking at a future where people ask "Why would you want to go to X?"

As you said yourself, you can die of sheer boredom in those places, unless your thing is to sit in a tavern and drink yourself numb, or shake up a bottle of meth and permanently forget your troubles...and everything else. The working demographics also contribute...these small towns used to be filled with people working in agriculture or ag-related businesses...but technology means we don't need a 30 man crew to bale hay anymore, we need a guy with a round baler and a bale hauler for when he's done with the whole field.

There's hope for information technology leveling the playing field a bit, my co-worker's small town, and my small town are both home to small IT companies that can be plopped down anywhere with a good internet connection...that only located there because it's a helluva lot cheaper than locating in Iowa City, but that's only a band-aid...we're not going to re-populate small town Iowa with IT nerds. My small town has mostly been saved because of the proximity to IC, and the proximity to the reservoir and MacBride, so it's got a nice little tourist vibe for a town that size.

Net result is that these small towns are desperate to get growth...because if there's not growth, there's death. My co-worker's small town is a little farther out than mine from IC, and it used to be far enough that it needed to be self supporting, but people are more willing to drive a little farther, so the hardware store, the grocery store, the...whatever...are dying out, and these communities are becoming anonymous bedroom communities for people who work and shop in Iowa City. My co-worker bought a downtown storefront for what's essentially his hobby that he might tinker with as a business after he retires. He bought the thing for about the price of a replacement for your Boxster, because no one can make a business go in that location. It had been split in two, and he rattled off about 10 businesses that had been in one side or the other...video store, coffee shop, workout place, bridal shop.

So, yeah...I'm not justifying the whitewater stuff, and I don't even think they're a good idea, but I understand why people are trying them...1, they're desperate, and 2, they're falling for a slick marketing package.

I have...neener neener neener!

Actually, it was a fake hate rep. Someone else had received one and I asked what it was...so one of the posters gave me a hate rep. IIRC, it was one of the mods. :)

Man, KC getting hate rep from mods, CG telling them to go fornicate themselves...we got our own little bad*** crew in hurr...
