^KC that sounds pretty awkward. When I was in high school, someone asked our whole chamber choir to sing their wedding. And funerals? Ugh. In a small town you almost always know the deceased.

Singing for people I didn't know was easier...and the organ & soloist were in a separate room from the service. I've really struggled at times when I actually knew the person, or the family. It's tough to keep your composure at times.

The songs that were the most popular at weddings in the 70s were "Sunrise, Sunset" from Fiddler on the Roof, "We've Only Just Begun" by the Carpenters, and "The Wedding Song" from Paul Stookey (of Peter, Paul & Mary fame).

Like you, I've lost my upper range. But I can still belt out Country & Gospel tunes. I'm just not going to say how well! ;)

^Done those all except the Carpenters. Weirdest wedding request in my view, Edelweiss.:twitcy:

Seems like a lot of funerals now, they play about a million canned songs over the sound system.

My dad used to sing for weddings and funerals, but is no longer able to, for the most part. He had a stroke in 2012 but is mostly able to take care of himself and he can sing somewhat to his old ability.

But don't worry, he's mostly back to his normal self. Minus a few physical and emotional capabilities.

I'm more worried about my capability to get over my ex-gf.

After talking to you, could've guessed that! ;)

Back in the day, like the rest of you, I had the range. Sing a high F in warm-ups or a song? Sure! Now....yeah, no.

I think it was after that one crazy Texas Tech game...on-side kick, et al, and I'd been screaming and yelling a lot of the game. Must have REALLY stretched my vocal chords because just for kicks, I started singing "Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen", and I was hitting those bass notes with no problem. Scared me a bit.

In what ****ed up world is blue cold medicine the daytime medicine?! Blue, purple or green is ALWAYS nighttime medicine! Daytime is always an orange or red. Walmart generic medicine, you ****ed me over big time.

I played baritone/euphonium from 5th grade through college. In high school I also played trombone on the side but there were too many already so they wouldn't let me play it at school.

I also sang and was in show choir (let the flogging begin) as a bass. In high school I was in the top choir but haven't trained since so I suck now.

I sang that wedding song for a wedding once. Pretty sure it was that one - something about when a daughter leaves her family and son leaves or something like that.

DH played sax through high school (not sure when he started) and I always thought he was pretty good. Liked listening to him play.
I took piano for about 4-5 years but it just never stuck. I wish it had now.

I was usually Soprano I, but I've noticed my lower range getting better over the past few years. I'll be sad if our kids have no interest in music. Really sad.

We both did choir at ISU - think he was in it the whole time minus the semester he was on an internship, but I had to stop after two years for conflicts.

So sad about the amber alert. :( Poor little guy was only 9mo old.

We have 3 alto sax players in the house. I played tenor one year in HS jazz band. Hubby made his All State jazz band in HS, played 5 years in college and was a drum major. I only played marching band 3 years in college.

Early morning run ended by Caseys at 6:10 this morning. Darn those donuts smelled good.

Just tater tots for dinner is a good, healthy, low-carb option, right?

You sly, sneaky sumbich....I just realized what you're doing here....you've been listing these horrible meal choices to activate nickles' mothering instinct that she needs to get out there and take care of you. Well played, good sir.

Okay WDSM, let's get you back in this game with someone other than nickles here...those sexy nerd glasses are causing your yips, so lets try it in an easier environment. In wxman's post above, the 'angle' is "School won't let him play with his 'bone because too many others already are". GO!

And with all y'all talking actual musical talent, I should come clean that I don't actually play the guitar, that was a riff on nickles' comment about the phony tinder dude and women finding guys who play guitar more attractive. In reality, I played trumpet for about 3 months, until I got sick of listening to the fat girl that I took lessons with get yelled at for not practicing, and decided it wasn't worth it (I wanted to play the saxophone, but parents railroaded me into the cheaper trumpet)

It's my slow roll approach. I'm trying every potential angle over here.

I now understand how kids drink anti-freeze and get sick.

I wanted to play the drums in 5th grade, but they already had too many drummers signed up. Since I already played the organ I think the director wanted me on a real instrument and recommended the baritone/euphonium. I ended up being really good at it and even better on the tuba in high school. I picked up trombone for jazz band.
