That was no dog, that was a ****in' office weasel.

This is business these days for people 2015's age. People would much rather throw you under the bus to try to gain favor as opposed to actually working hard for their recognition.

Obviously that's a generalization, but 20, 30 years ago when you might have a handful of those people in the office, now the majority of the people in the office are that person.

2015, I hate to see cookies go to waste. Let me know if you need my address.

I actually could send cookies to a few of you people once it cools down a bit. I've found that they just get melted and gross when they sit in a hot UPS/FedEx/USPS truck all day. Fall and winter are much better suited for them.

I'll take stormchaser's too. He'll never get them anyway

I didn't realize you worked in an office from the age of 2-12 to know how it was back then.

You're right and that's fine with me. Most good managers can see through that and they'll talk to you about xyz that someone pointed out only because they have to at that point. But it usually won't affect anything. If he brings it up in my one on one with him, I'll just tell him my reasons why. They are pretty good reasons IMO. It is way less distracting and they didn't give me a powerful enough machine to do what they asked me to do and I don't have access to this other thing that would help greatly, so I am doing it partially on my home laptop to be more efficient. If he says "too bad go into the office", I will.

Ha. I brought my laptop into work and worked "remotely" from my desk one week when our servers were laggy.

Did all Iowa schools start today? My cousin in 7th grade in Denver doesn't start till Wednesday I heard

Gilbert doesn't start until Thursday. Which is fine, because we only have crabby kids for 2 mornings before a slight reprieve during the weekend. I did wake them up early today (although not school early). They did not enjoy or appreciate it. Should've signed the oldest up for school volleyball, practice was at 6:30am today.

My sister in north central Iowa starts Tuesday or Wed.

PMing my address....

I'll take 2 dozen white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies as an apology for not inviting me to the suite with free food and drinks at the Rangers game.

Yes, and no. The tendency might be greater, but in large organizations, you can't do anything on your own. You HAVE to be able to collaborate. The back stabbers tend to either get some guidance or flounder. Just the other day, I got copied on an e-mail from someone in my area responding to someone in another area. I noticed the name it was going to, and thought "huh, I remember that guy, imma look him up." 5-10 years ago, this guy came in as a new hire, and he was going places, man...he was gonna be a mover and shaker...if you listened to him. But he was arrogant, abrasive, and would do exactly that type of stuff...throw people under the bus, etc. Well, I looked him up, he's in the exact same position, in the exact same group as he was hired at. I suspect a lot of it is because no one wants to work with him.

Do IT teams ever have things ready to go when someone starts? I swear, we've had people we knew would be coming on for six damn months and they get in first day "oh whoops, don't have yours ready yet"

I was supposed to get a brand new computer when I started (saw the order request myself months later). Nope. My boss was upgrading same time, so they gave me her worn out 4 year old computer. Well, I run tons of data stuff. I don't even know what the size of that thing was, probably like a memory of 10k.

So we asked for me to actually get that new computer four years in. That one had a whopping 320 hard drive. Day 1 it was already 75% full. My personal laptop at home was more powerful. So we had to go thru hoops of goddamn fire to upgrade the hard drive to the 8mb one I have now. It's quite possible that I run more data directly through my computer (and not a server) than anyone else in the company. And it had to go to the head of IT to be approved. My boss approving it out her own freaking budget was not good enough. This one was "new" but already a very old model. It was ridiculous.
