DH said his dad called asking if he'd heard about a certain email going around with a virus in it.
because DH, being a computer person clearly knows about all the emails with viruses as there are totally a limited number of them. DH told me the email title sounded like one of those racist forwards and told him to not open it. DH dad was like this was reported by CNN and it's the worst, will destroy your hard drive, etc. Ok, don't open it, problem solved!
As DH is telling me, he's googling this info (because I was like what? CNN reported on an email virus?) First thing that pops up is an old Snopes story about an email going out saying don't open this racist email that people are sending. Instead, forward this 'warning' email to like 25 other people. following me?
I'm like DH, do you think he just got the spammy looking "don't open this!" email? DH keeps reading. He's like yep, he said all of these exact things.
I swear, after you hit a certain age, they need to require a license to use the intertubes.
I asked DH if his dad has ever noticed and opened the Spam folder. Going to get a lot of phone calls that day!
http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/whitehouse.asp linkypoo about this.
About once a week I see something shared on Facebook that is totally BS. I go, "Wow, sounds like BS" and check Snopes or similar sites and yup, BS. I gave up correcting these people because it just pisses them off.

I get the people that argue with me about what if Snopes is fake (or even worse, the ones that say the government controls Snopes so you can't trust them).
can you hear your brain cells dying when they say that?
I tried correcting the people that kept floating that fake amber alert and took major heat for it.About once a week I see something shared on Facebook that is totally BS. The old dude next to just made the most racist two comments I've ever heard. I'm so uncomfortable right now.
$500 for an office call? Seriously???Went to the Doctor. $500 No way I'm paying all of that for a 7 minute consultation to say "yep, you're right" and write me a prescription for steroid pills.
