Welllll technically, it's imitation coconut flavoring, so that changes things.

Again back to the South Pacific series...so Coconut trees spread by the coconut floating along currents to new islands, and then when it hits land, it sprouts.

It's pretty much like the face alien in the Aliens series.

I think I've figured out the reason that I keep getting the urge to move to England so bad off and on. Americans are the most ignorant, judgemental people ever.

If I was a freshman in college it was 2001/02. Back the I think the only thing they thought that caused cancer was smoking, the sun and asbestos.

That was before internet forums were proven to cause cancer.

Years ago (freshman year in college) I remember a science teacher saying diet pop is actually worse for you than regular pop. Can't remember why though. I think it was something to do with the fact that because there's no calories, your body doesn't work to break down the other bad stuff? That may or may not be what he said, and may not even be true. Just thought it was an interesting tidbit if it is true.

'worse for you' is kind of a broad topic...there's 2 main parts to it as I understand it, one is a little more sound, the other seems to be an interesting theory, only kind of backed up by any science.

First, it's an artificial product. Like bags mentioned (with teh cancers), any chemical, in large quantities, isn't the best for you, and although artificial sweeteners have been pretty strenuously tested...you're still trading empty calories (real sugar) for no calories and some risk.

Second, the theory is that naturally, your body senses the taste of sweetness, and ramps up the body chemistry to deal with the sugar coming down your gullet. Real theorhetical part being, that over time, the body changes it's behavior with artificial sweeteners, essentially saying "oh, yeah, you've pulled this one on me before f***er, I'm gonna NOT get ready for sugar, cause you're just f***ing with me again." and so it doesn't...ever...making your body not naturally process sugar properly in the rest of your diet, resulting in you becoming fatter than you would have been if you just drank regular soda. But, although the link between drinking diet soda and some things have been established, actual causation hasn't. It's essentially like saying "Look at all the fat people that drink diet soda...oh, diet soda causes obesity." A quote from a prevention magazine article:

According to a 2008 University of Minnesota study of almost 10,000 adults, even just one diet soda a day is linked to a 34% higher risk of metabolic syndrome, the group of symptoms including belly fat and high cholesterol that puts you at risk for heart disease. Whether that link is attributed to an ingredient in diet soda or the drinkers’ eating habits is unclear. But is that one can really worth it?

I'm not sure I necessarily agree with any of the science...I do think it's something I should cut down on. Ultimately trying to transition to naturally flavored stuff, I've just never been the plain water drinker, unless I'm sweating a bunch...but on an average day, I just don't go for plain water...maybe someday as I wean off of the artificial flavors...

Worse for you as in weight loss. Not that that's why you were cutting down. Just had a kind of CG moment where that fact popped in my head after I read your post.

Other European countries are just as racist, if not worse. They're just less vocal about it.

I don't know about that...I believe that bananas being thrown at African American athletes isn't a completely uncommon thing to happen in Europe.

I was in a leadership class that talked about diversity, and one of the attendees was on our company's diversity council, a well respected African American woman, and she mentioned being in Europe, and hearing them talk about how they don't have the race problems that we have over here. I stopped her and asked..."OK, am I nuts, or is that false...the way I perceive it is that there's as much racism over there as here, if not more, we just have a dialogue about it...and that gets kind of ugly at times, but at least we're talking about it...over there, it's just accepted." She agreed. I guess maybe that was what you were saying, now that I type all that out, but I read it as the racist people aren't as openly racist.

DH used to drink some diet Mt. Dew in college. I got him to quit that.

I won't drink diet or really any low-fat/diet type food. I'll just take less of the real stuff, por favor.

Well, and that's how I normally am with everything (my rants about the in-laws fake food and all), it's just that I drink so much pop, I figured that I didn't need all those calories...but now I'm thinking I should change that up, find a better solution.
