Yes. Elmer was a 2001 Lumina, a 4-cyl with amazeballs. Great pickup from a dead stop, no pull on the steering. He had ~180K on him, all but 9K from me (us). He's still dependable enough to trust to drive cross country. I know him sooooo well (he was my commute car).

We sold him to our son, a single dad who needed to unload a big, money-pit pickup that got about 12 mpg. PapaLew has a buyer for the truck, and I now have a Buick...Optima, I think? I'd have to go down to the garage & look. Drives nice, 6-cyl with a "supercharger", pretty good pickup. It was funny test-driving it. Elmer is old, so there's road noise. This thing isn't much younger (2005 I think) but it's so quiet it's like when I first got Elmer...I had to set the cruise to make sure I didn't keep creeping up to 80 on the interstates.

The Buick & I will get to know each other, and it will get a name (and gender) eventually. But it will be weird seeing Elmer when our son comes up to visit...it's like going into a house you once lived in, that someone else has moved into and re-decorated. It's familiar, but also very strange...

*sigh*

If Optima, not a buick (Kia)...if Buick, not an Optima....no guesses.

You know that gif of someone walking in the room then turning right back around and walking out? That was me with the football board. I'm just going to stay clear of there until august, I think.

This?

mkay...my bad. It's an Ultima.

you made me go look. Good thing, too, because the door to the garage wasn't completely shut, and the overhead door was open, so Mel was out exploring. Molly & Milo stayed inside where it's warm. Now excuse me while I go find Cricket. She's probably still inside; she usually doesn't come out of hiding until company has been gone for several hours. :)

Is Elmer your car?

I felt the same way when I had to get rid of Betsy. Some people don't get it, but we went through a lot together. It was very hard for me. It's been almost two years now and Suzie still hasn't gotten close to the point Betsy was with me.

When I sold my old rusty bucket '72 Nova college car in 1982 for $350 I feel some nostalgia even though I hated that car for most of the 135K miles I put on it. The guy throw in a small bag of grass in the deal and I felt better about the whole thing.

The Nova was the only car I've owned that had a name, well, in this case names. It went by many names, "Cold Blooded Piece of ****"; "Conqueror of the Minnesota Winter, Lord of the Road and Life Car" (obscure Adi Amin reference from back in the day*); "The Mother Ship"; and "La Bamba".

* Amin had declared himself: His Excellency President for Life Field Marshal Al Hadji Dr. Idi Amin, VC, DSO, MC, King of Scotland Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Sea and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular

My experience is no matter how ****** a car is, you always miss it because it was your piece of ****.

It's bothering me a little that none of my current cars have names. My main ride, the A4 Quattro should have name. I call it Studio Audi because it's like a mobile rock studio on longer roadtrips but that's not personal like KC's Elmer or the Brad in the Liberty Mutual commercial.

Help name the Audi! 2006 image, car looks just as good, me today in 2014 not so much.

Nice to know I'm not the only one who gets attached to and/or names their cars.
This is the car I had for seven years before her rockers rusted through. Meet Baby, Elmer's predecessor:

Rust and '70 and '80s vintage Japanese cars?

Rust also ate the body and frame of my Datsun 280Z. Had the frame patched and keep driving it until it was for sale as a $900 mobile. My '88 Accord also dissolved to Minnesota salt and I donated it to charity after mechanic said "Don't hit railroad track crossings too hard with this car". Now driving rustless German mobiles with galvanized bodies.

House coming back alive after afternoon rest time. Little one was sleeping, mom took a nap while 4 YO and I watched a show about air force one (we've seen it before, but nothing good on). I love the question and answer sessions when he is learning. When mom woke up he told her all about how the plane had a kitchen in it and the president ate dinner in the plane because he was busy working, and they drove a car in the back of the plane (a C130 cargo, not AF1) so the president had his own car to drive when they flew to Africa. Mom and boys frosting sugar cookies now. Good day (although the cookie project hasn't been without it's meltdowns...mom and kids both)

Can we just call these threads what they really are : Girls gone not wild.

I feel like I'm constantly in the middle of one of those mysterious girls all go to bathroom at the same time things.

But hey gotta see what going on everywhere I guess. Carry on.

Better that than a bunch of dudes whining like babies over football.
