Yes and no. We are going to have crashes/incidents every year. Just unavoidable IMO with that amount of traffic, we are still human, they are still machines, **** happens. Four is high especially four in a three hour timespan and the second incident was the first true mid air I have heard of there in a long time. Saturday was a rough day.
There are always numerous instances of landing gear failures (blown tires, collapsed struts etc.) either due to mechanical failures or pilot error (slamming it down, forgetting to put the gear down are the most common). In fact one day a bonanza had forgotten to put his hear down and was on short final so within a half mile or so from touchdown and the plane behind him noticed it and told him giving him time to go around to get it down and land safely. The second pilot was given a challenge coin by the tower and I hope a steak dinner by the bonanza pilot.
