Random Thoughts 17: Here we go again.

I guess I'm an *******.

FedEx truck pulls up in front of our house. Keep in mind that our street is a main drag through our neighborhood with lane markings, one lane in each direction and a marked parking lane on either side. FedEx driver stops truck in driving lane with truck pointed in wrong direction even though parking lane has only one car in it for the entire block on either side. He proceeds to go to the back of the truck and rummage around for about 3 minutes before hopping out of the truck to bring package to our door. His truck is blocking the traffic lane for the entire time. I stepped out to accept the package which he couldn't hand to me because he had to take 3 picture of it on my step. I get it, rules are rules. All the while I debated about whether to say something to him about blocking traffic. I finally tried to be as diplomatic as possible and say, "Everyone gets that you guys need to double park at times. But when there is a whole empty parking lane drivers sure appreciate it when you aren't blocking the driving lane." He said, "What? Are you talking to me?" I assured him I was. He kind of rolled his eyes and walked away.

So was I an ******* for bringing it up?
UPS guy pulls into our driveway and since I was outside, I walked over and he handed the package to me. Said he just ran over a dog at his last delivery and he was having a bad week as it was his third one this week. I about clocked the A-hole as I knew it was my son’s place and they had just bought a new puppy. So, I drove to his home a mile away and the pup was fully alive but his lower body was crushed. Took him to the vet & put him to sleep. UPS drivers are supposed to park in the road or at the entrance and walk to the house. This A-hole was driving right up to the doorway too damn fast as he did at my house and too lazy to walk. I called the area UPS dispatch and reported him but I doubt it went anywhere.

You up yet?

Sloth got an early victory. Being tired from ride gave him an edge this morning. I can do stuff like a decent ride but do feel tired the next day, biggest diff from being 40-something and 70-something.

Drinking coffee and doing laundry so clean bike and gym duds for today and tomorrow.

I should have gone for a ride this morning but I did plan out a quick morning ride for tomorrow so that counts right?

Old people issues. Leg cramp, and by the time I got rid of it I was wide awake. I'll take a nap later. ;)

Side note - I've been sleeping so much more deeply now that I'm using a CPAP that I'm back to my youthful sleep patterns of 5-7 hours per night, Even though I'm sleeping less, I'm more rested. Anyone thinking of pulling the trigger on a CPAP should really consider it. I should have started using one five or six years ago.
I can't wait to see the more youthful you when tailgate season rolls around. You may have to identify yourself because I didn't know you when you were young and I might not recognize you.

I have barely touched a bike and RAGBRAI is approaching fast. I'm going to have to hit the bike hard after this damned reception is done. Only about 81 hours until it is over although I'm sure as the last of the day and with a fire going (if it is safe, since we've got this drought thing going on) we will probably have her friends and some family until the wee hours.

Why would a spry young lady like you have old people issues?

No. :D

It is interesting that the one thing I beat Sloth and his good buddy, The Procrastinator, at is keeping up with exercise. They kick my ass in everything else and nothing else gets done on time, or done at all but I keep winning the exercise battles.

I haven't kept up here. What's this reception thingie?

You could go electric. ;) It shouldn't bother me, but it does, when people on the stupid electrics pass me on the trails. Something about their leisurely slow cadence while going by me annoys the **** out of me. First few times I was "WTF?" when this fat tired bike and rider slowly peddling went by me. Now I look at every bike that does pass me and only count the ones that are truly being man powered.

Only got 6 words on the Octordle Daily Rescue today. The computer made some real awful choices for the 4 starter words

I have been known to yell cheater at them. A certain roommate of mine does not appreciate that.

Daughter's grad reception. When it comes to hosting events Mrs. Velo is "go big or go home." Well this one is both big and at home.

I don't think I will go electric until I truly can't do it anymore. I have gone on RAGBRAI before not in my best shape. Even with very little training I am still in better shape than I think.

As far as electrics go, I suppose I should be glad that it gets more people out and active, but how active really are they getting? I see way too many people out letting the bike do all of the work for them who should be getting the exercise. When the 80 year old guy who just can't bike anymore uses it to still get out I think they are great.

We have smoked 6 pig butts in the last two weeks for the reception. It got a lot easier when I broke down and got a Traeger pellet grill/smoker last weekend. We were able to do three at one time this week. It is going to take all day anyway, we might as well get three done at once.

Going to head out to check out a woodpecker cavity/nest. Been hoping to see baby woodpeckers. I think I may have missed them and they've fledged. Probably WAY too smoky to get a picture if I do spy them but going to take a look. Will be wearing a mask. Went over to LifeTime, the few minutes from the car to the front door was stinging my eyes. Can't recall air quality this bad and I've been here for decades.

Was driving home from downtown with the windows open. Realized I still had masks in the console so I put one on. I agree, even the bad smoke we have had from previous fires does not match today. I feel like I am in Beijing or Mexico City.

Noted in the weather thread I just closed my house outside air intake and turned my fan off (I usually run it 24/7 for circulation). Was starting to impact the interior air.
