Anyone else deal with imposter syndrome? I recently started a new job at a new company in accounting. This is my first job in accounting and is in a different industry than I came from. I know this is pretty normal for someone starting a new job, but I've just been sick all week with anxiety and feeling overwhelmed. I know this will reside in time as I learn the job, but I'm just dealing with constant doubts about if I made the right move.
Remember that most people are ******* idiots. You will be fine because I assume you are not a ******* idiot.

We tell new hires that don’t have experience in exactly what we do that it will take around a year before they really feel comfortable. Hell I am 5.5 years in, essentially a team lead and am a SME in certain areas and weekly I still have to ask questions or get help on what I am missing.

Keep your head up. If you have good leadership they won’t let you fail this early.

Two days in a row that I haven't gotten Wordle. (Yes, I still play) That's unusual for me.

I play Wordle and Quordle every day. I usually do Octordle as well. I was one win away from getting to 50% on the Octordle Daily Rescue. Blew it 5 days in a row and counting since. That doesn't bother me though as it's so difficult to complete.

And I got Wordle in 3 today <ducks>

Haven't done Wordle in awhile. At one point I had found a semi pattern to knowing what came up (my specialty is noticing patterns) but don't remember it. Had a couple that took me like 8-9 tries until I got it. Usually the double letter ones.

Not a thing, work. It’s like my old job all over again
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I will give you some old person advice. Most jobs are going to suck, so remember the three things you most wanted to change about your old job. Now, does your new job meet those 3 things? I changed jobs once strictly with that. I was on a walk with my wife one night and said I wish my job had these 3 changes, a month or two later I got an offer out of the blue and those 3 things were different with the new job, so I said I have to take it.

Speaking of weird things at work. I have a part time job that I'm the Iowa lead for now. I was lucky enough that I get to deal with my son for part of this now. The weird part is how I'm officially "BC" with all communication and not dad.

We found it occurs at all ages, even kindergarten.

Congrats on the new job, though! I'm still trying to figure out how people get those.

Yeah, and they knew when they hired me that this would be new for me. They told me it will take a while before I start to feel comfortable with it, so it's all just pressure I'm putting on myself. It's just tough where I was seasoned and knowledgeable at my old job where I was on autopilot most days.

Maybe standards have changed but it used to be that you wouldn't judge a new accountant too harshly for about 18 months. It can be such a technical position and involves getting into the details of many different areas that nobody else cares about or wants to care about. Being willing to deal with these details is also why, by default, duties often fall to accounting when nobody else will/can do them.

I work in an extremely intimidating environment and always tell new people that is easy to feel overwhelmed and to not be afraid to ask for help.
I was intimidated when I started here 26 years ago and we were nowhere close to how large we are now.

I had more experience with newbies thinking they did know everything. Would have been refreshing to have someone who was concerned that they didn't.

I think I just paid my CPA $100 to save me $2. The doc said by income averaging they saved me $2. Guessing it cost them more than that to figure it out.
