There may be some truth to @Malone comments, but I also think in today's world of social media, message boards, and premium accounts, the misses in recruiting are magnified.
I really think you gotta wait and look at the whole body of work, so let's wait till November, after early signing period.

Last fall, I'd give the staff a B+. Stokes would have made it an A.

This past spring and summer, I'd say C or C-: Shayok was big, but losing McNeil hurt, and Beverly and Brase are avg.

Well first off Wigginton was a huge deal but I would argue we closed the deal on Lewis, Shayok and Brase

I noted Wigginton. Shayok was also big. Any objective fan would not classify Brase as a "big deal".

Otz opened the door and helped us close the deal with Lewis. So yes, you do have Wigginton and Shayok as concrete examples of recruiting successes with this staff. Would like to see more of that.

You think I'd like to be right in this situation? To see Prohm fail? That's a heck of a reach.

Why do I "seem that think you are the first one to say prohm needs recruits"? What does that even mean?

My opinion is straight forward and there is no "freaking out over this crap" in my post. I posted a level-headed opinion. We've seen things play out. They'll continue to play out. My point is that it seems apparent we need to pay to have a recruiting specialist on staff. We do not have a recruiting specialist on staff.

You are the reason fanatical sites like this one can be insufferable - opposing opinions are lambasted. Have you considered the other side? Are you capable of considering the other side?

Agree. Need someone like TJ on staff. I thought Berry might be that guy. Jury is still out on him but h did help land Wigginton. Prohm is great at building relationships with guys but sometimes that only gets you so far. I would bet money the staff gets at least 2 top 150 recruits for fall and at least 1 4 star.
But I think with an elite Asst Recruiter they would do even better.

You have no idea how good Beverly, Lard and Brase will be. We beat out some quality programs for Brase and you have to give Prohm credit for Lewis. Saying we landed Lewis because of Otz when Otz wasn't even here when Lewis committed is dumb, especially when you are arguing about this staff's ability to "close".

Your post implied that prohm is too stupid to know that he needs recruits.

It also implied that he is purposely not doing that.

Right now he has the best staff he can get snd he has confidence in that staff. When he doesn't have confidence, he will make changes. Your devlaration on his staff needs are worthless.

YOU are implying that I am implying something. I did not imply anything. Logic. You don't just get to impose your beliefs into assuming what others think.

I will tell you exactly and perhaps you can de-wad your panties and stop imposing your assumptions into my posts. I don't think Prohm is too stupid to know that and imagine some doubts are creeping into his psychee. He'll try to make it fit and he HAS been trying to make it fit. It hasn't been fitting so far.

Yeah Lewis is Prohm's. I wouldn't count Beverly as a big win though. But he could prove me wrong

Lard, Brase, Talley (if he comes) or Beverly could be wins or could be misses. No clue yet. Lewis is definitely Prohm's and I think that will be an obvious win

I also don't agree that by saying the staff might need a shakeup is a dig on Prohm. I think he is a pretty loyal guy. Sometimes coaches get blind spots because of loyalty. Even the best coaches aren't perfect and can be questioned at times.

I was a little worried until Monte and company ended their last year so strong, that is. I'll wait and see how Prohms guys pan out before losing my mind.

I know we live in an era of journalistic sensationalism so it's easy to say things like "blasted" and "losing my mind." Nobody in this thread is losing their mind. It's a discussion about opinions. I am not "blasting" Prohm. This isn't "armageddon" and my mind is fully intact.

I do agree that Prohm and staff showed us their ability last year coaching. Feeling a lot better about their ability to bring a team together and develop talent. But I think people have a right to be concerned about recruiting and to express said concern.

I know it's not the popular opinion because *gasp* it's critical of something Cyclone, but it's becoming more clear that we need to pony up and pay for a guy that can go out and finish these jobs. Otz had "it". This staff, outside of pulling in Wigginton, has not shown the ability to put the nail in the coffin despite "being in great position" so many times. The amount of failure this summer pulling in transfers to an ideal situation for said transfer, combined with missing out on a guy (and not the first of his kind) we'd been recruiting for a few years then losing him to a school that recruited him for a few months...it's become pretty damn rough. It feels like a novice operation that doesn't know how to break through.

Flame away. Make excuses such as "not a make or break recruit" or "felt like a Big 10 guy" or "we've still got a lot of guys and it'll be a great class". Failed recruiting is becoming a troubling trend, and it's the thing that gets coaches fired. Would love to be wrong of course.
Otz's recruiting, and Abdelmassih's success was not always on the up and up if you know what I mean. So be careful what you wish for.

If I remember correctly Monte said that Michigan was only going to offer if he commited when he was a HS Sophmore. Monte was not comfortable with that so he turned them down.

Thank for that detail. I was going mostly from memory. I think Michigan had impact-guards already committed, but had Morris in the mix.

Their loss, I guess. :)

I don't think there is an "elite recruiter" that we can hire and then sit back and watch the recruits roll in. It doesn't work that way with this coaching staff. This is on Prohm and after he gets a few more top guys, we will go back to calling him a "great recruiter" . . . until he loses someone for the 2019 class and then the sky will be falling again.

We get to see Wiggington, Lewis, Lard, Beverly, and Brace added to Young, Jackson, and Weiler-Babb (and with Shayok waiting in the wings for 2018). Regardless of who we didn't get, that is a pretty good group of guys that he did get.

Obviously there is more to recruiting than what we as fans realize but I really think Fizer would be great on the recruiting trail. McDAA in highschool, seems to have ties to a lot of regions and would be great with big men. Not to mention extremely passionate about Iowa state. He would be my first choice if a position opened up
