Race Thompson

since when?

Coffey is the first 4-star or higher guy they've kept in state for a while, and had Fred stuck around, there was a decent chance he wouldn't have picked the Gophers, as well.

Tyus Jones, Reid Travis. JP Macura, and Rashad Vaughn, all went elsewhere. The state of Minnesota gets picked over pretty good, and the Gophers haven't shown that they can close the border with any consistency.

Yeah agree they've lost some talent in the past but landed Coffey last year and already have Daniel Oturo committed from St. Paul for 2018. Top 100 recruit. From what I've heard that'll help our chances however.

As someone who grew up a mile from Race's HS I can say gopher basketball is not followed with any passion up there. There is literally zero comparison between the Barn and Hilton coliseum beyond they are both gyms. how Minnesota gets recruits is beyond me.

I think I've seen more gopher apparel here than I ever did living in Minnesota.

Race should be impressed with Hilton Magic considering he is planning to visit soon.

My dream future front court.

Solomon Young 6'8" 240 LBS JR.
Cameron Lard 6'9" 220 LBS SO.
Alexis Yetna 6'8" 205 LBS SO.
Race Thompson 6'8" 200 LBS FR.

Losing Stokes and Feazell hurt, I have to admit, but Young emerging and Lard seeming to land and stick in Ames had definitely cushioned that a great deal.

Seeing Prohm recruit some posts with the "academic credentials" equal to that of our guard and wing recruits. from recruiting services, which are obviously imperfect, but more right than wrong often than not, is probably my last doubt with him right now. Finding somebody like Thompson to pair with Wigginton, Lewis, and our diamond-in-the-rough from Sacramento (our one last gift from TJ Otz) would sure look super sweet to everyone.

apologies in advance for steering this back on topic...So is Thompson a day 1 starter talent and if so is the staff cautious on a 2017 signing to not jeopardize his recruitment?

Personally, for 2017 I'd be ecstatic if we only signed Juiston up front and living w/ Kasongo and Lewis fill the remaining minutes at the 4 and hopefully having a formative duo of Young and Lard to man the 5.

Maybe the men's coaches need to talk with the women's coaches...they seem to have no problem pulling the #1 women's recruit out of Minnesota nearly every year! Heck, they almost get more from Minnesota than from Iowa...

I'll throw in Canada too, but that has been good for both teams.

Juiston would only overlap a year. Same with Kasongo.

Yetna would be 3 years, but Race is so much higher rated, I doubt that's a threat.

I think he plays for Iowa Barnstormers, believe their AAU coaches were upset ISU gave Ernst the boot, so they are not going to encourage kids to come to ISU anytime soon.

That and I believe that operation is run by a U of I grad, who does not necessarily push kids to Iowa, but he would not discourage it.

And given that ISU and Iowa both have said that they never should play at UNI in hoops, probably did not sit well with his dad.

Have read the kid hates Iowa as well, and would never consider them.

Guessing if a team like the Badgers offered he would jump on it.

Race will be a tough get. My gut says that a lot of big ten schools will come calling soon. Michigan State, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Michigan, etc. Go get him CSP

True, believe Kansas and Baylor have also offered so he will have options but ISU has prioritized him for a while. I believe this will be his second visit and he has spoken about ISU in most of his recent interviews very positively. Good vibes Prohm's/ISU positioning as of today.

Race would fit very well as stretch big with the current roster Lard and Kasongo being more low post threats. Solomon Young too but he has flashed some ability to step out and shoot, expect that is something he refines for next year.
