Question on Jack Trice Bleachers pre Sukup

Hello! I am trying to get the year the large aluminum bleachers were installed in the south endzone. By that I am talking about the version of bleachers just before Sukup Endzone was done.
I've found some history of JTS saying in 2002 permanent lighting and a large video board were added and I am thinking those nicer, higher capacity, aluminum bleachers were added about that time.
I am asking as my 101 year old mom and my father who is no longer living purchased their first season tickets that year. My mom purchased season tickets again for this year and was asking if I knew the year they started purchasing season tickets.

You are correct. Here is a good article from that era

"Van De Velde also said 3,000 new permanent seats will be added in south end zone with the purchase of new bleachers. The price tag for that is $500,000 but makes sense in the long run because renting those bleachers had been costing Iowa State $90,000 per year"

2002 was lights, south video board, and "nice" bleachers.

Before that the south end zone was scaffold-style bleachers (with some years of nothing, and a brief stint with giant tailgate tents).
You’re making me feel old. Reading the OP, I was trying to place the time I watched two short, pudgy grandfathers—they looked so much alike, they could have been brothers—almost get into a fight in the SEZ…as their respective grandkids looked on, clearly horrified.

Yes, it was the Iowa game. One Cyclone, one Hawk fan. Must have been…’99?

Boy, I feel old!

That was when I first bought season tickets, the year they put in those permanent bleachers. I think a season ticket there was something like $150 and of course no donation required. They had porta-potties under the seats. Otherwise, you had to hike all the way up on the east or west sides to get a flush toilet. Ah, what we will do just to watch our Clones!!

We first purchased season tickets shortly after they put in the permeant bleacher, I believe the first year we paid $99 a for each ticket. ISU was struggling selling tickets and offered season tickets for $99 for football or basketball, we purchased football because we would struggle getting up most basketball games during the week. We got 4 tickets and then went to 6 after a few seasons. ISU also ran a deal where you could pick 5 games to get MBB tickets and we did that a few seasons. Cannot remember the price we paid for the 5 games.

The AD should be able to help you with the yr they started their tkts especially if they've owned them continously.

For several years, we had seats just in front of the “nice bleachers.“ There was another set of three rows of bleachers right on the field. They are still my favorite seats. You could yell at the refs and they actually hear you. You could watch the nuances of line play. We are able to sneak around to the other end for the OT of the Oklahoma State game. Ah, I miss those seats.

I’m assuming the Hawkeye Gramps made some disparaging remark against the Cy Gramps on his home turf and he was justifiably defending his honor. During my younger Hayden Fry years, I would have probably piled on Hawkeye Gramps too.

We did that as well. Got two seats that my dad and I mostly used. When I went to college my parents moved from there up to the west side. a few years after that they started donating, we went up to four seats for a few years but are back down to two.

I guess you could say it paid off for the AD so to speak as they hooked a few seats for a couple decades

I remember those seats, my cousin would get them for seed companies, for the EIU game. There were in those seats when we beat EIU in OT and ISU ran an option play to that side and we walked in to win the game. In the photo showing the winning play, you can see them standing there in the background.
When they were building the enclosed South end zone, we had to go to the east or west side of the bleachers, walk all the way down, to the field, and then walk over and up to our seats. It was only one season, but it was a pain.

We did the same thing and we are still in the same seats. Only about a handful of others that did same thing around us are still there. Still glad we did it!

You must be the west side, we were on the east side and loved our seats, but were forced to move when the students were relocated over to that area. Now our seats are on the west side of the Sukup area, but I do still miss the seats we had before the move.

We are on the west side and we've added eight more around/near us in the last few years.

We had a great group of people on the east side, they were from Ogden, large family and friends group and we sat by them for years. They are now behind us 10 rows or so in section 19, still talk to them before the game. The seats we have now are surrounded by scalper seats, so it's different people every game, which kind of sucks not getting to know the people.

We were on the east side of the field bleachers, so the EIU OT game finished right in front of us. Loved those seats.
