Quarterback Situation

I am betting that ALL 3 above QB's will play in the opening game-maybe in the first half. Manj is not going to allow the starting QB to lose the game for him, without seeing what the others can do.

That sounds really familiar.

One thing Rohach and Richardson have in common is when Rhoads decided to insert them into the starting quarterback position he waited until the weakest opponent on the schedule.

Best case scenario going forward is for Mangino to make all the personnel, play calling and game planning decisions for the offense while Rhoads focuses on defense and head coaching responsibilities.

I would say personnel and game planning decisions are certainly a part of most head coaches responsibilities. Now, I'm sure they work with their coordinators to make those decisions, but I still find it interesting that it seems likes most Cyclone fans have voiced the opinion that Rhoads should just stay completely away from the offense. It's interesting... that's all.

Come to a 'Quarterback Situation' thread to find most of the last page dominated by an AD discussion. What do they have to do with our QB's?? Good grief..

I don't expect whoever starts to be a Heisman contender by any means, but I would think a combination of experience (except in Lanning's case), better O-line play, & Mangino to help their production.

In your dreams. Too many injuries occur for the qbs. If the three are close in production, an injured qb should rest up.

You don't watch much football do you? The vast majority of teams only play one QB. If there is a change, it's because of a serious injury or the QB is really struggling. Football is all about chemistry, technique, and timing. You don't have that if you switch around QBs.

I think he met having a QB who was healthy enough to start all 12 games. We'd have won another 10 games under CPR if our QB's had stayed healthy :twitcy:

Just by the way Mangino talks..I gather with his style and some of the things he has said...Rohach will be starting QB.

Uh no. Mangino wants one QB.

Correct. He has stressed that over and over again. He wants ONE guy.

Now if for some reason we were to get way ahead or way behind against NDSU in the first game, all bets might be off for the 2nd half?

I do think some guys are practice guys and some guys are gameday guys though. What I mean by that is... some practice great, but collapse under the gameday pressures... whereas other guys are kind of so-so in practice, but thrive under the lights. And in that sense, you might just have to play them in a real game to see what you've got?

For anyone who may care, I have heard from multiple people inside of the football program that the quarterback depth chart going into fall looks like:
1. Rohach
2. Lanning
3. Richardson

Rohach is pretty far ahead at this point, and will most likely wrap up the starting job within the first few weeks of fall camp.

In the spring game, Richardson would have broke many long runs, had it not been for the touch rule.

It has been done in the past. The key is, your Q backs have to have the same skill set.
