Hard to fault someone for thinking that. It was what? 35-40 years we waited between Earle Bruce and Matt Campbell? Success on any level has not exactly been an ISU calling card when it comes to football. I'm not saying I agree but I get it.

Technically he didn't say anything about their culture, just that they had one and Campbell would make it better.
I think the difference now is there is far more institutional support, and imo, the Internet has really helped Iowa State athletics.
I believe many coaches should be capable of stepping in and recreating Campbell's success.
I appreciate Matt's time here and thought he ran a clean program. He was also the first to get it done in the modern era.
Some day I hope we reach the point where he will return to the program similar to Mac has in recent years.
True, ISU was an absolute football powerhouse before Campbell. He ran this place into the ground, should have been gone years ago

A vast majority of the Big 12 has done as much most of the P2. Which is nothing
TCU, ASU, and Cincinnati looked similar in their CFP appearances as the P2, sans of OSU, UGa, and Bama.

Colorado won a national championship in 1990. I think that's more recent than Penn State.
UCF claims a national title in 2017.

What's frustrating is I believe the 2014 TCU team was far more of a national title contender than the 2022 team, but they got shafted by the "committee."
I remember they defeated ISU 55-3 during the last week of the year, and the committee moved them from #3 -> #5. Then they completely annihilated #9 Ole Miss in the bowl game 42-3.
(FWIW, I also thought 2011 Oklahoma State had a good chance of becoming national champions as well, but they were also screwed over by ESPN.)

Yes, Michigan history is strong but this program is in really bad shape.
I will really feel like this if those guys start showing up at Ped St games on their bye weeks.
Yeah I don't think that's a comparable situation. When Bill Snyder entered Manhattan, KSU was historically the worst D1 football program. I don't think they had even won a game in over two years. They had terrible facilities, no money, and very little historical institutional support. I believe the NCAA was also almost about to kick them out of D1 because they weren't averaging enough fans in the stadium to meet the minimum attendance requirement.
He constructed a national championship level roster in a decade.
At Iowa State, I believe post Dan McCarney era, a lot of our facility issues, etc. were becoming resolved. It was basically a matter of time imo before we got a good enough coach to have some regular level of success.

Give it up. The Big 12 is mediocre in football. UCF.lol. Yeah they've been such a big addition to the conference. You know your conference isn't much if you're adding directional schools who played a division down not long ago.
It appears the Big 12 has improved in the last few days. They’ve gone from a joke to mediocre.
