PSU Campbell Presser

My good friend, a PSU alum who lives in State College, just told me one of the last questions at Campbell's PSU presser addressed the NIL rumors. Supposedly Campbell took a shot at JP saying how he and staff had to create their own NIL and do everything themselves. So it appears some of those rumors running around are based in fact..

JP needs to get his **** together regarding NIL.
Interesting, Blum may want to know that Campbell’s considers he did nothing for him.

My takeaways from Matt's Presser:

1) the Penn State AD is a ******* moron
2) I read that Matt's motives were both to be closer to family AND about financial support. The specifics of each are murky and unimportant at this point regarding him leaving.
3) Matt is an authentic guy. I don't care what anyone else says, but he's not going to lie to your face. And he didn't through the whole process.
4) Interesting that his wife did help push him to the Penn State side of the argument. No ill will from me, but it was mentioned
5) I'll eventually pull up the youtube clip, but when the crowd literally laughed at Iowa State that we had to create our own collective (outside of the AD) and use evaluations to our advantage was a telling thing. B10 looking down their noses at everyone, nothing new there.
I really think the family piece of this is a big - maybe the biggest - deal. Big part of why those 4 jobs close to his home were the worrisome ones.

He also started saying "we didnt have an AD who.." then quickly stopped himself.

I guess this could be taken a few ways.

Only if you want to take it as a negative on Jamie.

Listen to the 4:30 mark where CMC chokes up and talks about Jamie who took a risk on a young coach and having the opportunity to build a program in Ames.

Being AD at Iowa State and being AD at PSU are two different jobs from a financial support standpoint. So yes, what Pat Craft has to offer is much more than Jamie can offer. And not only because House/NIL is in it's early years.

And Jamie shouldn't and can't apologize for the hand he's been dealt at ISU. In fact, I've always had the impression Jamie has embraced the unique challenges that exist being ISU's AD from a financial perspective.

When I think of the financial support piece, I often think that this move allows him to compensate his loyal assistants more. He did so at ISU, taking a "pay cut" or hometown discount to ensure that he had more money to allocate to assistant coaches. I think he's truly looking out for them as much as he is for himself!

I can't imagine a better source than the OP mentioned. We should run wild with pitchforks.
I’m not sure if I need a two-pronged pitchfork for Pollard and Blum, or a third prong for Erica Campbell. Maybe big boy just wanted to go there for himself.

Wow, sounds like his 45 minute conversation with Cael Sanderson sealed the deal for him. he certainly praised him in his introduction to PSU.
Just driving home the NC expectation. It will be daily pressure that will remind him he’s a failure in Ped St’s eyes if he doesn’t achieve it.

He was overselling himself, almost as if he were being interviewed by everyone in the room or defending his hiring. Perhaps the adrenaline was pumping, and he was all hyped up on PSU Koolaide. He definitely mentioned that moving back 2.5 hours from home was a significant deal. Still, he also conveyed that his dad loved PSU and PSU was a dream job for him—taking over Joe Paterno's legacy and rebuilding after what Franklin left behind. I didn't realize he knew Terry Smith, so retaining him seemed like an easy choice. This will probably be the first and last press conference I listen to, unless the Cyclones are playing against them.

He expressed that he wanted the challenge of coaching at the best university. Gonna recruit and turn out high ethical great players, as we've heard here, and he certainly has. Now he has that challenge. If he doesn’t achieve great things—by the university's standards—in three years, I say, his next big challenge will be finding a new job or deciding which beach to live on with his bags of cash.

These universities NEVER learn from these crazy contracts!!!! They should put requirement language in there. I forgot what term my wife said, but she rattled on about how these contracts should be written. She lost me at the first long legal word. LOL.
