I just let the simulator go, played for 225 years and spent $47,000 to win $3,382. This is why I think lottery drawings are rigged. They know what ticket number combinations have been sold before the drawing. They let it build to $200-$300 million, maybe even $400 million to create some buzz, then they let someone win it to make people believe they can win it as well.

Here I thought I was being pretty unlucky. Apparently not compared to your results. 33 wins of the three numbers / no powerball is the cause. Not a single win for 4 numbers or above.

Money SpentMoney WonProfit / LossReturn on $Avg Ticket Price
$20,000$1,370$-18,630$0.07$1.86

Second Attempt where I selected random numbers 14, 19, 27, 32, 35 and PB 23

Money SpentMoney WonProfit / LossReturn on $Avg Ticket Price
$20,008$1,707$-18,301$0.09$1.83

Two wins from the four number combos and better then the odds and every one except just powerball match. I would guess actual numbers will outperform the random. but still look at that great Loss and why lotto tickets are for those who can't do math.

There are winners for the big totals because way more tickets are sold. There are a ton of people who only buy when the jackpot hits a certain value, and many others that will buy more tickets than normal hoping for the big win. I read something a while back that said you are likely to get a better payout on a smaller jackpot because you are much less likely to have to share it. Lotto officials don't need to rig the system because it is working perfectly as it is. This program is strong proof of that.

Because there's nothing worse than only winning $30M in the lottery

Though last time in Vegas, I was waiting for my wife to come out of the bathroom, and was playing 2 cent video poker, at 2 cents a hand. Got a Straight Flush. Won maybe $4

Nice conspiracy theory. Too bad statistics isn't on your side. Are you a prepper by any chance?

I tihnk it's interesting to see what your win frequency was. I had a poor showing on 3 of the 4 you can hit within the odds of 5,000 games.

Can someone explain to me why the odds of picking the PowerBall correctly are 1 of 55 instead of 1 of 35? Am I missing something super obvious, making me feel dumb.

It's actually the odds of picking the powerball correctly and all other numbers incorrectly. From a probabilistic perspective, it's actually two seperate lotteries - one where you have to pick 5 numbers out of 59, and another where you have to pick 1 number out of 35. The prizes are then based on the results of "both" lotteries.

You get $10,000 to spend on powerball tickets. Lets see who does the best

- try and stop it as close to 10k as you can as it moves fast, you can slow it down when you get closer

my stat line

spent- $10,002
money won - $813
profit won/lost - $9187
return on money- $.08
average ticket price- $1.84
