Post-game TCU celebration thread

Guessing that Purdy play will make SportsCenter bottom 10. I thought we were doomed after that bonehead move.

On 2 Touchdown run plays a gapping hole opened up right where Simmons our OG was... For a RS frosh who really hasnt played he played a great game.

I also thought Foster played well in pass protection for most part..

Really like Simmons at OG and his upside...Get Downing back and we might just have something.

CF never fails to come thru with people being whiny ******* after a win.

Srsly. Let's celebrate the fact that the Cyclones won today because they dominated both sides of the LOS.

D-line was extra salty today with 6 sacks, 9 TFLs and made TCU's rushing attack a non-factor with 99 yds rushing on 44 attempts (2.3 ypc). Bailey, Bankston and MacDonald flat out owned the TCU O-line today.

O-line paved the way for 213 rushing yards on 28 carries (a freakish 7.6 ypc!) and kept Purdy clean w/only 2 sacks allowed against one of the better D-lines in the conference.

If today was bad, I'll take a whole lot more bad the rest of the season.

Ummm,

So it would have been better if Hall had stopped and kneeled 10 yds into the run so we could show more consistency?

You do realize when we hit a big play, the opportunity to have additional shorter plays evaporates?

Hardly a picture perfect day but I am going to roll with the win and say that having patience paid off today allowing the big plays to happen. I will take some numbers next week please.

Just for giggles, anyone know what % of ISU games historically we have even had 175 yards rushing?

Your logic isn't real strong. Phantom running plays after Breece's 75 & 30 yard runs, or Kene's 50 yard run are meaningless.

The 40 yards on 25 carries actually happened. I love the explosive plays! But if ISU is going to contend for a Big12 title, having a lot more 5-8 yard runs is crucial.

It could be the difference in running out the clock at the end of the game and punting. Today we we're fortunate Rose made a spectacular INT.

This is a super dumb drum that you’re beating. Pretty much any good running team gets their average by big hitters. Not very many teams averaging 7 yards per carry are getting it with a bunch of 7 yard runs. They’re getting it with some big runs tied in with some good, some average and bad some ones.

The good:
Breece Hall is a very good running back.
Offensive line much better today, even with Downing out.
Scates and Wilson with big catches. Hopefully they continue to be part of the offense going forward.
Defensive line - all beasts.
Mike Rose saved the game with an incredible pick.

The bad:
Tom Manning still with lots of 'WTF' calls. 4 rushes in the first half for Breece Hall? Turrible.
Take the sack, Purdy. Might be the worst decision I've ever seen.
Safeties need to be better against OU.

But, we won. So celebrate *******!

I think the 4 rushes in the first half were circumstantial. Breece kind of got blown up a little on his first run with a combination of bad blacking and a bad cut/read. I believe the drive was a three and out? Maybe it was four plays. Then the next drive Laing was in there. Then another three and out Breece’s next drive. And then he busted a 75 yarder on a two play drive. Combine that with TCU eating clock in the first half and one short field from the Bailey sack and fumble recovery and there wasn’t a TON of opportunities for carries.

I did not watch the game. A question I have is did the Cyclones do better within the "margins"? From what I have read there were no special team blunders. Were there stupid penalties at crucial times, dropped passes at crucial times, etc?

In the end, a road win in conference play is always a big deal. They are not easy to come by for any team in any conference. Congrats to the players and coaching staff!

TCU was fortunate to be gifted a TD on the dumbest play in the last 20 years. We're even.

Shanked an extra point and Rivera was good in the first half but had some low punts with bad coverage in the second half. We were about one pinky getting stuck in a jersey away from them housing a punt on us. Kick return coverage was significantly better though. Dare I even say very good.

I don't recall seeing any drops from our receivers, or any killer penalties on our end. Won the turnover battle this time.

Just get better each week. Every conference is there for the taking.

You can't defend the play Purdy threw it to TCU; it was inexcusable. That said, he didn't let it get to him, as he came back later in the quarter to get a big run, followed by a dime to Scates. I didn't think we were going to win when he had that bad play, so props to him for not sulking. Just don't do that again.
Purdy seems like the type that doesn’t let sh*t get to him. Most of the time he bounces right back, running game success definitely helps.

Anyone who watched the game knows that there could easily have been a three TD swing in ISU's favor.

1. TCUs first score - Rose was 1/100th of a second late to stop that pass.
2. Brock's whateverthef@ck that was.
3. TCU scored with :00
Honorable mention - Assalley's PAT miss was due to a bad snap iirc, not bad kicking.

I feel really good about the rust getting knocked off at this point. And in this weird COVID season I feel really good about our chances against anyone in the league. Normally I'd hate OU coming to town after a loss but for OU it's championship or bust. They could feel like bagging this asterisk of a season now. And if not, there's still a lot more pressure on them than us.

The only thing that really bothered me about today was the poor passing game still and conservative play calling.

Like someone had mentioned at the time.... on that 3rd down play in the 4th qtr where we ran the play, but it didn't count because CMC had called a timeout.... then we came out of the timeout and ran a simple handoff up the middle to Hall on 3rd and 5 and lost 3 yds.... that could have cost us the game had Rose not come up with a huge INT.

I absolutely hate that conservative BS play calling. That is playing to lose.... not to win.
I wonder if the conservative play calling is affecting the passing game, or if a mediocre passing game is causing the conservative play calling? For example, on crossing routes how many times does Purdy put the ball behind the receiver rather than leading him? And throwing into tight or double coverage. And, the O-Line, of course.

I think that’s more that our receivers are just not very good at getting separation. They depend too much on their size advantage, which definitely helps, but is going to make it look more like Purdy is throwing into tight coverage to the naked eye.

Especially on TV where you don't see when the receivers get open. Purdy may be throwing to time up for that slight instant when the receivers have a bit of space.
