Pop ups are too much.

I blocked all ads for ages. As soon as Premium became an option I subscribed to try and make up for some of the ad revenue I denied the site.

Blocking the ads does work, but there should be something in place so it's not necessary. Some option where CF can earn ad revenue, but still be usable.

I think the incentive is to make the free site nearly unusable to force people to pay for the premium subscription.

It totally makes sense for CF to do that, so I get it, but I just won’t come on here if I can’t stand it anymore.

Then you can all be happy and throw a party when I’m gone!!

I feel your pain. I can't even pull up CF on my iphone because of the ads & I pay for the premium. It's been that way since at least Nov.
If you pay for premium you shouldn’t be getting ads. I had this happen a while back where ads started showing for me even though I was actively paying for premium. I messaged Chris. It took a few days but he got it fixed for me.

I wonder what the revenue % is on this free site (with ads) vs premium subscription. Is it worth keeping the free site if you're the owner and have to deal with all the maintenance of fixing it. Just asking.

not paying premium to get news one day early lol
Maybe they've changed some of the way things get reported in the past couple years, but I was a premium subscriber for a long time and it was not uncommon for things to first get reported by those not affiliated with CF on Twitter, even though it would later come out that it was known. If they weren't going to be definitively breaking news, a paywall to complain in elitist fashion about the content of the free boards didn't do all that much for me. (There was a lot of that there, to a weird degree, in those days.)

I'm sorry for the few that feel this way, but in 2026 to have the takes:

"Don't view the website on mobile" or "Download some other app to be able to minimize the effect of the ads"

is wild to me when there is no other website (no matter how big or small the website/company) we have this level of an issue with other than CF.

It's great that PCs/laptops work better and DuckDuckGo or whichever app works for people to tame the problem. But most internet browsing is done on mobile nowadays and if ads are SO intrusive that you must have some other 3rd party downloaded to bypass them... that is just unacceptable imo.

The few that disagree with me are totally free to feel so, CF needs to make money and I understand that.

As with anything in life, it all comes down to priorities. In my own case, my premium subscription still feels like a bargain to me. It costs me approximately 37 cents/day.

Given that I typically spend a couple hours per day on CycloneFanatic, I figure I'm spending around 15 cents/hour to enjoy ad free dialogue with my fellow Cyclone fans. I figure entertainment doesn't come any cheaper than that.

I don't even care about the increased access to information that premium subscribers enjoy.... that's not a big deal as far as I'm concerned. I just care about not having to fight the relentless pop up ads, and it also feels good helping to support the best message board community in our state.

But like I said, we each have our own priorities. Since I don't really have any other vices that I waste money on, I figure I deserve this.
