Pollard On Student Section

Only a ********* AD would call out his students for not attending games. He should be happy you guys have one of the best student/fan attendances in ALL of basketball, what a ******.
At least the athletic department doesn't have to tweet to fans to make noise during opponents free throws.

Jamie has a fair point, but didn't need to be a little ***** about it.

1) Dance marathon was going on. This is an extremely popular event and raises money for the children's miracle network. I know most, if not all, GREEK life is involved, so there's a lot of students missing, right there.

2) It was an issue LAST year, but students haven't complained too much this year about it, except for those that stood outside 4 hours against Kansas and didn't get in.

3) Jamie is a professional. No need for the "in your face" tweets.

There are a lot of high profile teams' arenas that look like **** on TV. It is one game and as others have said there was something else going on. Let's not act like this is some sort of exodus from the ISU bball team by the students.
I say we all just calm down a lil bit.

The crowd was definitely more subdued than usual. I was a little concerned that we, as an entire crowd, weren't giving our team the best advantage we can and I'm glad it didn't cost us. Bottom line, I love it when the students are there in full force as it definitely makes a difference.

dance marathon is a bad excuse. ive been to enough games to know many are the same turnout as this. also, 30k students leave enough for both events.

Trying to find a cure for cancer takes priority over ISU athletics all day, everyday

He's saying dance marathon is a bad excuse for there to be less than half of the student ticket holders to show up, NOT that it's a bad excuse to skip a game. There were more unused tickets than total participants in DM. Hence: "30k leaves enough for both events."

That said, DM is cool. I used to know several of the people who ran it when I was in school and I thought they usually tried to avoid making people choose in the first place. Anybody know the inside scoop? Lots of busy Saturdays this month?

For the record, the only game that they have had to turn students away since overselling was the Iowa game this year. The KU game was not filled IIRC. JP didn't have to seem snarky about it in his tweet but it just goes to show that the system works to fill the student section more except not everyone may get in for the biggest games. But as other posters said, Dance Marathon was going on and a lot more students than people think were at that. Just see the picture below to understand how many people were at DM and I'm sure a good portion are season ticket holders. The picture still doesn't do it justice how many people do DM.

I'm pretty sure Pollard did not intend his tweet to come off as "haha I'm smarter than you" or "in your face".

Could it have been worded better? Maybe? Does it need to be overanalyzed with an 18 page thread? No.

I don't at all have a problem with what JP said. Simply stating why they oversell. Student attendance was slightly low (balcony not full) for plenty of conference games last year at times and I am sure this year will be no different.

Yeah, when there are news stories about students being turned away, it's fair to show the flip side.

The student section has been pathetic the last couple years. Barely any emotion at all. When I was a student the atmosphere was always electric and we didn't have a nationally ranked team either.

Pretty much every generation says that

Time to revisit what is reserved for students. I'm hoping that the old-timers will buy those seats up if they are released. I'm guessing that the demand is there.

Wasn't the AD on TV being interviewed about "all" of the students turned away at the Iowa game? Which they got refunds for the price of that ticket if they showed up. Did Michigan or KU have any issue? Nope. I have no issues with JP stating what he did. Some people are just sensitive to JP. Love him or hate him, he rarely puts ISU in a bad position.

In my day we walked 10 miles to school in 3 feet of snow facing 75 mph winds...uphill...carrying 25 pounds worth of school books and lunch. And we liked it, dagnabbit.

I went with my family to the game on Saturday. Since it was the only game this year where we could all attend, we shelled out some pretty big bucks to get tickets, and our seats weren't even all together. I was disappointed and angry when I looked at the upper student section and saw it was maybe a third full.

As others have said, sell your tickets if you can't be at the game. With all of the online options to dispose of a ticket, there is absolutely no excuse for just letting it go to waste if you know you won't be there.

I do feel like Hilton is up and down a lot more than it was, or less consistent. The Kansas game was as good as any arena in the country, great crowd. K State, felt very very flat for a huge game against a ranked team. Just odd. Not sure why that is. Maybe people just don't care as much for non-KU games.

No where in the original tweet did JP say anything about the DM. So I'm sure he wasn't secretly wishing against it or opposed to it like some of the people are thinking.

1 game had the student section filled. 1 game. What was the conflict with Baylor or KU?? Nothing... None at all. If those seats were available I probably would have 4 season tickets right now.

Baylor was during break.
