People are free to do what they want. It's not my thing, and it looks more pleasant to me to just stay home from the events where people are more inclined to drink heavily. That's not my world, so it's an easy choice.
Some venues have started having "family sections", which prohibit alcohol sales, I believe. I'm very supportive of that because it seems like a good way to create an enjoyable game experience for people with varied preferences. I've even seen ballparks experiment with "pet sections" for patrons who want to bring their dogs.
