My first Iowa Cubs game was Budweiser Night. Beer was spilled on all, and it didn't get better from there.

People are free to do what they want. It's not my thing, and it looks more pleasant to me to just stay home from the events where people are more inclined to drink heavily. That's not my world, so it's an easy choice.

Some venues have started having "family sections", which prohibit alcohol sales, I believe. I'm very supportive of that because it seems like a good way to create an enjoyable game experience for people with varied preferences. I've even seen ballparks experiment with "pet sections" for patrons who want to bring their dogs.

I am fine with no beer from a game day standpoint, especially with the ability to go out and put one or two down at halftime.

I just think we are missing a huge potential revenue stream.

Right...because people won't be able to tell which teams are playing from the score ticker, the markings on the field, and the announcers. Bogus argument.

Besides, sometimes it would be nice to not be recognized...

I am a teetotaler, but I really don't care if people are drunk around me, I find them somewhat entertaining. So far no one has thrown up on me, that might change my mind about how I feel. It does get annoying when someone starts the same story for the 10th time though.

I don't know...I used to work with a guy who did security for the St Louis Rams games as a side job. He said things got pretty interesting. Fighting, urinating in the stands, vomiting, even mentioned some gun-play one time. You know, the normal stuff.

Rhoads has said the same thing. I am 100% in disagreement, not about having the uniforms but not knowing who is playing. Oregon, Boise, Baylor, West VA, etc have changed their unis a 1000 times and I can tell you if I ever turn on a game they are playing in, I can tell you which team they are 1000 times.

This isn't black and white tv with bunny ears.

I used to think this before realizing it is a rudimentary and oversimplified view of branding. The facts do not support this view. We are not Alabama we need every advantage we can get.

I've thought for a while that stadiums where alcohol is sold (NFL for example) ought to have sections where everything is kept especially family-friendly, sections where they let a little more go (boar's nest) and then more general areas. That way, folks with little kids can come enjoy a game without having to worry that little Johnny is going to pick up colorful language.... or have other questions he wouldn't otherwise.

Similarly, the bachelor party can go have a really good time - and at least those two ends of the spectrum don't have to directly mix. I suppose it's easier said than done.

Just a thought: Texas gives us permission to broadcast the game on our own network and then ISU is able to capitalize on the revenue from the advertisements. That is how we "get paid".

ESPN is giving Iowa State and Texas tier 1 rights they already paid for. Pollard gets an extra game on cyclone tv they can get subscription and ad revenue for. ESPN is agreeing to it because it will help drive up demand for their longhorn network. Outside of out of state fans it is a no Brainerd for pollard.

The game is a no Brainerd, and a no Mankato, and a no Fargo, and a no everywhere else outside of Iowa, unfortunately.

Holy necrobump.

With that said, my frugal spending habits tend to quickly vanish when presented an option of alcoholic beverages at sporting events.

We don't need full beer/bar access. Just have some cardinal & gold jell-o shots passed up and down the aisles by concessions staff after each score.
