Pollard being arrogant over the years

I have a difficult time believing that anyone in the AD position could have been successful during Gordon Eaton's tenure.

Univ. Presidents do play a part. Lots of things go into it in my opinion. Even Luck. Maury John got cancer.

Not sure I'd call him arrogant because of his hiring success rate.

He certainly could be considered arrogant in this instance, if TJ is indeed the hire. Firstly, because he wants to prove he's right by getting the guy he was told he couldn't have the last time. And secondly, because he appears to be dragging his feet on an official announcement after the news has already broke.

#powermove

In general, I'm glad we have him. I'd rather have a guy fighting for us with a chip on his shoulder than some push-over.

That’s right. MBB went 0-18 two years after an extension. Trust what process? The process is ISU enjoying demographic changes and increased TV money.

JP isn’t arrogant. That would be going after those outsiders think we have no business talking to. Instead he goes after his friends or people he thinks fit in with little ole Iowa St.

Jamie Pollard is the best thing that has ever happened to Cyclone sports . . he is well respected by our Hawkeye centric sports media in Iowa and by those inside and outside of the Big XII. He provides vision, progress, and reality to "Little ole Iowa State" and our place in collegiate sports. I hope he stays here until he retires.

JP was the AD when the best things that ever happened to Iowa St athletics occurred- favorable demographic changes and increased TV money.

His best attribute is stability provided by having the same average AD for 15+ years.

If it bothers you for JP to be labeled an average AD, don’t think so lowly of Iowa St. It didn’t take a great AD to increase the budget, but still be near the bottom in the Big 12. Just a decent beancounter that didn’t get in the way of the positive changes that were coming

oh . . . and I trust Pollard implicitly when it comes to hiring coaches. Even CSP delivered tourney championships and NCAA bids . . . it is too bad his best recruited talent left for the NBA ahead of schedule . . which should be a lesson about becoming an NBA feeder program.

Leading people and making decisions is hard. Commenting about it without any responsibility is easy. We are all certainly entitled to our own opinions though. For me, I don't always agree with everything Pollard says or does, but I do respect the job Pollard has done. It's hard to dispute the results. ISU is in a much better place during his tenure and he deserves a ton of credit for that.

Feel free to pony up with all that "Dr. Pepper" cabbage to support our athletic program . . . that would be a big yippee for a lot of us. I guess you've missed the past year and how athletic programs across the Nation have had to downsize just to "stay" solvent. Your cash contribution will be a big yippee for all of us.

I get it. Satire. Well played

And, in no way, do you give credit to JP for changing those very demographics? You couldn't be a better negative propogandist for the sole intent of damaging him. Who in the world do you work for?

Demographic changes aren’t generally quick like undoing his bad extensions.
The demographic changes are another generation removed from little Iowa St College where athletics weren’t valued (or allowed to be), on the path to being a 35k university in which rooting for Iowa St has been ingrained. The local population has grown. The natural Iowa St community is larger- that leads to more fans, more tickets sold, more donors etc.

Not only is it larger, it’s been conditioned with Orr, McCarney, LE etc.

Be more positive about Iowa St, even if that means viewing JP a little less as an immortal

You inferred media contracts. To which JP was paramount for the conference. And with your argument in this post, Illinois has perennially had a horrible AD. Let's not forget Gene Smith or any other AD here in the past 50 years. Nothing whatsoever accomplished, but at Ohio State (with all that money before he got there), not looking so bad now. Not sure where you're going with all this, but the more you contrive arguments, the more foolish it looks. And, finally, no one is perfect. But, given the success/failures of his peers I'll bet he ranks in the top 10%.

to: WhoISthis Okay enough already. . I get it now. You have a personal animosity/vendetta against Jamie . . . so get on his schedule and work it out with him directly. BTW, you sound like a Hawk with all of the "little/ole" ISU snarky comments. Being a 50 year Cyclone fan . . I can tell you how difficult it has been to overcome a century of pro Iowa/anti-ISU prejudice by our local media. It still exists today . . just listen to Andy on "Murph and Andy" . . . he constantly disparages ISU sports by his frequent put downs of "little ole ISU" . . . quit emulating him.

I agree, but that is a low low bar

Is it? How many comparable schools (i.e. not Ohio State, etc.) have improved themselves financially and/or competitively more in a similar span of time? I'm sure there were some better but certainly not many...

Competitively? We’re 0-18.
VB, wrestling, gymnastics. But those can stay down if it’s due to cutting their budgets to spend more on FB and MBB. Tank XC and T&F if needed
