Podcast Recommendations

A few of my recommendations outside of the OP:

News:
Up First by NPR (daily weekday podcast I usually listen to first thing in the morning before work)
NPR Politics

Sports:
The Bill Simmons Podcast
Ivy Envy (Cubs pod)
The Solid Verbal (excellent college fb pod)
One Shining Podcast (for your college basketball fix)
The Moonlight Graham show
Pardon My Take (not a big Barstool guy by any means, but I'll occasionally listen for the humor and interviews)

Reactions: Doc
Sportsish:
The Tony Kornheiser show
High Noon
Marty and McGee

Politics:
Potomic Watch from the WSJ
NPR politics

Other:
Hardcore History (new one last week!)

If you are interested in policy debate, some of the think tanks/legal organizations (Cato Institute, Brookings Institute, Federalist Society, ACLU, etc.) have some very interesting panel discussions.

Looking for some new podcast series to listen to at work, home, in the car, etc. At least to tide me over until football season when there will be a lot more content.

Currently subscribed to:
CycloneFanatic (duh)
FiveThirtyEight Politics
ESPN 30for30
Murph & Andy/Sports Fanatics (only listen to these if I miss the shows)

Have listened to a few Rogan podcasts, but I usually don't have time for a 3+ hour podcast. Also enjoyed Slate's Slow Burn series about Watergate, and I believe they're coming out with a new series about Clinton/Lewinsky in August that I'll be listening to.

What are some of your favorites? Any category (sports, politics, religion, personal finance, etc.) welcome.
Wondery's Business Wars if you're into that kind of thing. Start with episode 1. If I recall Additas vs Nike was the first "war". They have about a half dozen episodes before moving on to the next set of competitors.

Also subscribe to The Big 12 Podcast (official) and make sure to listen to the Bowlsby interviews. Good stuff.

CyCast is required listening.

Check out Something You Should Know for something a little different.

There isn't enough hardcore history content so I listen to history on fire between episodes. It's basically a poor man's harcore history if a thick Italian accent doesn't bother you.

Isn't enough free content, or have you been through the entire library on his website? Theres more than a few hours to burn if you pruchase the older ones.

I like both of Dan Carlin's podcast. I also listen to the CyCast and most of CF's podcasts. Ames Trib's Cyclone Slant is okay. Same with Cyclone Insider from the Rag (Chris W, Uncle Randy, and Tommy Birch)

I've recently gotten into Malcom Gladwell's Revisionist History. Took a bit to get into, but I like it now.

Mike Rowe has "The Way I Heard It" which is basically a 21st century version of Paul Harvey's rest of the story. Great listen.

I'll listen to some Planet Money and a time TED Radio Hour's.

I slowly got into Nerdist/IDI10T with Chris Hardwick. He's been "offline" for a while and I wonder if he'll be back? He's probably got other things to worry about . . .

If you like paranormal and UFO stuff, Last Podcast on the Left (pretty funny), and Beyond The Darkness (a bit more serious) are good.

Politics - We the People Live with Josh Zepps
Crime - Crimetown from Gimlet Media
Random Stuff - Freakonomics and Revisionist History
Game of Thrones/Harry Potter stuff - Binge Mode

Subscribed to Up First, Planet Money and This American Life. Gonna check out PMT sometime soon, and the big 12 podcast once football rolls around. Gonna keep revisiting this thread as well.

Thanks!

Most of the NPR podcasts are solid. I enjoy listening to Planet Money, TED Radio Hour, Hidden Brain. Invisibilia doesn't do year round podcasting, but when they do come out with a new season, it's a really solid listen.

Otherwise, I also enjoy Freakonomics (and Stephen Dubner's "gameshow" side-project "Tell Me Something I Don't Know" is also a fun and informative podcast). There's always Stuff You Should Know as well, Josh and Chuck are podcast legends at this point.

If you like college basketball, One Shining Podcast is great. I think those two guys on the podcast (Mark Titus and Tate Frazier) are hilarious.

Comedy: Dynamic Banter, Not Too Deep with Grace Helbig

Serious: Revisionist History, Reply All

Other: Frightday (horror movie review/cryptids and conspiracy conversations, etc), Popcorn (comedic review of mostly 80s and 90s movies with some more modern ones thrown in)

You'd like Monstertalk then - it's the science show about monsters.

I don't currently listen to many podcasts but come across ones I like now and then.

Powerline Blog had a couple recently on the 14th Amendment (parts 1 and 2), episodes 79 and 80:

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/category/podcasts

They are long, each about an hour, but informative. It helps to have prior background but some people here may get something out of this. The podcaster, Steven Hayward, is a professor at California-Berkeley (however, a conservative). The other participant, who is new, is pretty good though anonymous, possibly a law professor (and seems unlikely to remain anonymous if she continues to participate).

I came across some much shorter history ones I liked at Libertarianism.org, on social media, quite awhile back on my phone.

I believe the ones I listened to are from Liberty Chronicles:
https://www.libertarianism.org/podcasts/liberty-chronicles

from this longer list of podcasts available at that site:
https://www.libertarianism.org/podcasts

The Cato Institute set up that site, Libertarianism.org, a few years ago. Much older than the podcast phenomena, the Cato home study course audio recordings are comparable, and also available at that site:

https://www.libertarianism.org/guides/cato-home-study-course

It isn't people talking to each other but pretty informative.

In addition to podcast recommendations, what do folks recommend for podcast apps?

On my iPhone and iPad I used Overcast.

I've recently switched to an Android Galaxy S9+ and have installed Pocket Casts. I also bought the web version.

What are the advantages of Overcast vs the podcast app on apple products?
