Players Era

People do realize it would be impossible to have equal number of teams in two pods when you have 18 teams, correct? A pod of 9 doesn’t work to have everyone play two games.

So was listening to a Creighton recap show, and they said the Tourney wants to avoid having a team that plays late tonight have to play early Wednesday.

So there is another wrench in the gear box.

If ISU plays Maryland might be tommorrow night?

I give up

In a way they are by pods. Two different buildings/fields(pods), five 2-0 teams. Would have made more sense to have two less teams, and the only four undefeated teams in the 1vs2 and 3vs4 even with the weird point differential being the deciding factor.
This ignores the fact that several articles pre-tournament clearly stated first in each pod plays in the championship and second in each pod plays in the 3rd place game. The most clearly explained was the Syracuse.com article.

Who the eff cares who our next opponent is. Just win the game we get, and onto the next!

This (circle jerk of a) debate about earnings is sounding a lot like SEC fan bases bragging about their TV revenue.

If the money went to the AD, then I agree. But if guys are missing out on big paydays because the blue blood programs are getting scheduling benefits in these tournaments, is that going to hurt recruiting? Let’s say ISU wins tomorrow and goes 3-0. But another team also goes 3-0 and splits $1m because they played a team like ND instead of SJU. Wouldn’t you be interested in

On the one hand, it's cool we got paid for this - the matchups are great and it's a lot of fun to follow. Bunch of Q1 games and national recognition.

On the other I don't think I've seen such a scuffed format. Like you would have a difficult time making a more convoluted and arbitrary tournament if you tried. Pods, but different sizes? Win differential, but different opponents?

Yes. That’s why you don’t have an 18 team event. It’s just stupid.

Crazy that the meaningless put back by SJ last night wasn’t meaningless at all. Meant ISU didn’t cover the 1.5pt spread and kept us out of the 3rd place game.

It does in this format, they are only playing 2 games, its not a full round robin/tourney bracket

You play 2 games in your pod of 8-10 teams then it goes to tie breakers.

If it was a full round robin or full tourney bracket then it wont work.

edit: nvm I misread what you posted. Yeah 9 teams dont work in that way. has to be even.
