Players Era

Everything other than the TV broadcast, including multiple articles like the Syracuse.com article, points to the championship and 3rd place games being based on finishing first or second in your pod. I think the confusion by the TV broadcast and others is that after those two games it is just overall order with no rematches and then they also avoid conference games in those remaking 7 games.

I feel pretty confident we are locked into at least the 3rd place game with the Baylor loss.

I also just realized the pods aren’t the same size. So let’s add that to the poor management of the tournament. If the pods do matter, how do you have one with 8 teams and one with 10 teams.

My opinion-

Pods matter in determining the top 4 that play in the 1/2 and 3/4 game.

Worst case we play in the 3/4 game.

If Auburn beats Michigan by less than 8, we play in the championship, if not we play in the 3/4 game. I have no idea who will come in 1 & 2 in the other pool.

Who did you want instead, out of curiosity? And good on you for admitting you were wrong!
Honestly, I don’t even remember.

I just found TJ underwhelming and feared the program would be mired in mediocrity for a few years before Pollard tried again.

Now, the Hoiberg hire I ******* hated.

In fact, I’ve only been really happy with two ISU coaching hires ever: McDermott and Chizik.

Clearly I’m a ******* moron.

It's an event, not a tournament. Look at it as 3 quality games on a neutral floor and nothing more. Going 2-0 also means walking away with a nice check.

The current MTE rules require you to have a 'champion'. That requirement goes away next year.

Two back-to-back game wins in 24 hours is good enough for me. I worry about more games/minutes in a back-to-back-to-back run and someone else getting hurt. I'd be fine with packing up and going home for Thanksgiving. I know our fans in LV won't agree.

Why not just make it a regular tournament?

Winner gets the biggest cash amount, 2nd and 3rd get less, etc.

I am so glad that JP hired his buddy. I'm really glad his buddy turned out to be our GOAT.
Yes, I whiffed on my first thoughts about TJ.
Same.

Sometimes the thing that seemed in the moment like the convenient choice can also be the best possible choice.

I used to chat with TJs dad quite often via email and text. Their entire family was sure TJ was going to replace Hoiberg and were basically told as such until Pollard was told by the pres that the hire had to be someone with HC experience. As great as we have it now, I'm pretty glad that TJ got his feet wet at SDSU and UNLV before coming home. Not saying he wouldn't have been a great hire then, but you just never know, and things have worked out incredibly well so far.

I thought that was just a rumor!

I don't know if this was discussed earlier, but how did they choose matchups? It seems like they can totally manipulate the tournament that way.
Matchups were announced mid July and with the amount of turnover in players in the sport I don't think PlayersEra really could have had enough data to make this a credible thing.

Before we entered this tournament, I said one win would be great, two would be incredible, and three would be unfreakinbelievable.

I still feel the same. We're hovering right now between incredible and unfreakinbelievable!

Well, they knew Rutgers was under .500 in ‘24-‘25 with the #2 and #5 NBA draft picks.

Seems like enough to infer they’d be ******* terrible.
