I used to chat with TJs dad quite often via email and text. Their entire family was sure TJ was going to replace Hoiberg and were basically told as such until Pollard was told by the pres that the hire had to be someone with HC experience. As great as we have it now, I'm pretty glad that TJ got his feet wet at SDSU and UNLV before coming home. Not saying he wouldn't have been a great hire then, but you just never know, and things have worked out incredibly well so far.

Reading that article about him a year or two ago (SI i think?) about how he built his program and the things he learned at SDSU\UNLV, I think you're right and I think he'd agree.

Plus it would have been a more difficult spot trying to learn those lessons and also being the guy to try to follow Hoiberg. The fanbase wouldn't give him anywhere near the kind of patience it gave him when he was picking up after 2-22, especially being handed a loaded team in 2015.

All seems to have worked out the way it should have.

That's pretty much where TJ routinely keeps things.

I know I read it earlier in the thread but what do we believe has to happen in the rest of tonight's games for ISU to draw KU in the championship tomorrow?

Everything other than the TV broadcast, including multiple articles like the Syracuse.com article, points to the championship and 3rd place games being based on finishing first or second in your pod. I think the confusion by the TV broadcast and others is that after those two games it is just overall order with no rematches and then they also avoid conference games in those remaking 7 games.

I feel pretty confident we are locked into at least the 3rd place game with the Baylor loss.

I’m just concerned that the TV partner will speak the no pod theory into existence. How do you leave your TV partner out there to keep saying the wrong thing? Unless the rules are flexible enough that they’ll essentially let the TV partner pick the teams.

College sport needs - really needs - coaches like TJ and CMC. Some say winning is the only thing, I say it's the only thing when human survival is on the line, like WWII.

I'd much rather see TJ have this attitude than a win at any cost value. Human dignity, virtue, still matters. ISU coaches possess those qualities. It makes us superior, imho, to the Blue Bloods who pursue conquest at any cost.

Really, the Iowa State University athletics culture is loftier than those humans who prize only mere wins over losses. (But, damn, our culture makes the wins so special!)

i remember last year when we were writing them off for missing shead when they struggled in november, then they just kept humming.

but i think they miss roberts more than cryer. roberts carried them for large stretches last year.

I think it would take Houston and Auburn winning by single digits. Doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen. Houston is gassed and fading.

I mean no one knows, basically everything said here in the last 20 pages is, there are so many different scenarios being talked and written about.

Multiple articles say pods matter as posted here, yet the TV partners say overall matters, not pods. So no one really knows and the official page says nothing about official rules etc.

So who do you believe? No one knows. We will just have to wait until tonight to find out the real answer I think.
