Players Era

Disagree with worrying about this with all due respect. Control what you can control and move on.
I'm not worried (especially after that game). We'll get a good opponent for the last game regardless now, and this week is ultimately just 10% of our resume for March. I'm just mildly annoyed that the entity taking over November basketball doesn't understand how to run a tournament.

Assuming the reporting about 1st/2nd from each pod is accurate, and ignoring further down tiebreak rules:

If St. John's beats Baylor:
  • Iowa State goes to the championship game if Auburn beats Michigan by less than 8
  • Iowa State goes to the third-place game otherwise
If Baylor beats St. John's:
  • Iowa State goes to the championship game if Auburn beats Michigan by less than 8 AND Baylor beats St. John's by less than 12
  • Iowa State goes to the third-place game if only one of those happens
  • Iowa State goes to the consolation games if neither happens

We are only competing for a spot in the championship with our "pool" so a lot of these don't matter. We need Baylor to lose to St. John's and Auburn to beat Michigan by less than 7 and we are in.
Hold that thought, I had read about pool play earlier, but now I see something about them reranking ALL the teams after the 2 games. What a convoluted mess.

They are competing against all teams. Not just their pod. They re ranked everyone after today.

I haven't looked at all the game odds, but if its all team reranked and NOT arena based, I'd say the most likely scenario is an Iowa State vs. Kansas third place matchup.

I'm enjoying all of this confusion - figuring out/strategizing pool play at youth baseball tournaments all summer long is just as fun, trying to find out how many runs you have to score/give up to avoid the 8am sunday game lol.

Agree. I kind of like waking up tomorrow morning, and seeing if we play Wednesday or Thursday, and who we play.

I think that either pool play or reranked, the third-place game for ISU seems most likely (but not at all certain). A lot of variables for opponents, but I'd say either KU or the Zags are most likely.

It will be gonzaga then. Thought i saw something about not having to play a conference opponent in technically a non conference game
