Holy cow. I voted for Yelk before I saw these numbers. Had no idea he was that bad. Didn't he punt well for us his last couple years? Maybe that is skewing my memories?
He was a punter, kickoff and long FG specialist. Half of his FG attempts were 40+ yards.

I looked up Adam Benike. What a difference a year makes. He was 46/48 on PATS in 2002 and 17/23 on FGs (14 games). 2003 only 19/19 on PATS and 6/8 on FGs (12 games). 29 less PATS year over year. 2003, yuck.

This is cool. Thanks for compiling. I wouldn't mind seeing overall FG made/att along with %. (XP made/att probably not necessary, % can stand on its own).

Whar Goedjen? Forever doomed by missed extra point vs Nebraska?

I will take Swole Netten but love me some Mevis and Shaggy too

Another survey dominated by short term memory. Shudek had more tries because he had more ability that could be trusted. His inside kicks were like a sideline pass to a wide out.

Shudek had more tries because he had more ability that could be trusted.

He also had incredibly anemic offenses that couldn't get the ball into the end zone for the first half of his career, so that resulted in more FGA.

1988 - 17.7 ppg

Owens was good. Hard to put him or Mevis tops all time though, based on small sample size. I went with Netten simply because he went from having yips early in his career to being really damn solid as an upperclassmen

I remember some of the old guys like Giffords, Kohl, Shudak and even Shaggy and Yelk fondly, but the numbers suggest that it is hard to beat Mevis. Glad we had him.

On a side note I always thought it was strange when the NCAA went to the same goalposts as the NFL they actually made the job harder for college guys than for the pros* - until the NFL made the PAT a lot longer, that is.

*Wider college hash marks make for tougher angles on a lot of kicks than the pro tight hashes.
