You're right. Never mind that it's statistically superior to go for it every time. We should keep doing what we're doing. Keep incorporating zero creativity or wrinkles into our generic, predictable coaching schemes. Keep trying to beat Texas and Oklahoma at their own game the conventional way with worse players and less resources. It has worked so great for us the last 100 years.

You know what, the more I think about it the more I agree with you. I don't understand why Rhoads isn't signing 4 & 5-star guys. Seems like they would be better players than 2-star guys. I wonder if he has thought about that. Maybe you should call in to the coaches show and suggest it. Man, you are a genius. I bet you rock all the nerds at chess club, huh? Can we hang out sometime?
I'm convinced. We have the dumbest fan base in college football. Reading through this thread just cements it. Goodness.

Considering kNU has tradition and some championships behind them, I would disagree. We beat them our last time in Lincoln and was a botched fake xp attempt from beating them last time in Ames as well. Wyoming nearly upset them last night..
LOL. David Johnson would look worse than Jeff Woody if he was on ISU. Wimberley is better than Johnson, but you'll never know that because Messingham is trash.
A lot of people here are blowing up what I said way out of proportion and calling me stupid. I know we aren't going to be able to get a top ten recruiting class ever. However, what the hell does Indiana offer in terms of tradition? Nothing at all. Last year they still signed four 4-star recruits. I can't even remember the last time Indiana won a bowl game. We should be able to beat Indiana every single year. If you still think I'm wrong, you are the biggest homer there is. Recruiting could get better for ISU with a hire or two as assistants.
Okay, Junior. It isn't that easy. You are either stupid or lazy. I have my guess but you tell me which.

State of Iowa 2 4-star (one we have committed, the other to Alabama)
2013:
State of Indiana 1 5-star, 6 4-star
State of Iowa 1 4-star (who we have redshirting)
2012:

State of Iowa 1 4-star (signed at Michigan, we signed highest 3-star)
2011:

So more local talent available. Now go find a map. See the state of Indiana? Now look at state with which Indiana shares a border. What do you see? Ohio. Michigan. And those states produce a lot more football talent than Minnesota or Nebraska (Illinois is a push because it borders both Indiana and Iowa). So it is closer to talent-rich areas. And we don't even have much exposure in the states we border (because they aren't in our conference anymore) so recruiting is automatically harder in our border states.
So don't come in here and tell me that it is an apples-to-apples comparison. Because it isn't. THAT is why people (specifically me) are saying you are stupid.
(I am ignoring your homer statement because it doesn't make any sense. If I don't think we should beat Indiana in recruiting every year makes me a homer? Ummm. Not sure you know what a homer is.)
UNI had "5 star" players in terms of passion and effort. That either comes from within, or Farley instills it. We've had two mail-it-in games in a row - Tulsa and now this. Did you watch the game?
I did. We got punched in the face. But it is pretty easy for a team to overlook a I-AA opponent. And it is easy for a I-AA opponent to get up for playing a I-A team. And I think we have a shown a pattern of coming out flat from time-to-time. That is an issue.
My comment was a reply to his. He said that recruiting projects isn't working and insinuates that we need to recruit players with more stars. Well, no crap Captain Obvious. If we could, we would. To rip on recruiting is lazy and ignorant.
Just because people have different opinions from you doesn't mean they are lazy,crazy or ignorant. Without differing opinions message boards would be boring.

That's his point. Stating that we would be better if our recruiting was better is a 'no ****' kind of statement that everyone already knows.
What opinion? That we need to recruit better? Everyone wants us to recruit better. Me included. But to rip on it is stupid. We are recruiting as well as we can. Look at the numbers I quoted above in the comparison between Iowa and Indiana. We are pulling in the higher rated recruits in our state. But our state doesn't produce many highly ranked recruits.
The facts are that we live in a talent-poor area. We have to travel a great distance to get players. But so does Nebraska. But they have tradition to sell to recruits. What do we have to sell? What is our selling point to woo some hotshot 4-star who isn't from Iowa? <crickets>
We have won three bowl games in our history. Three! We have two conference championships (from 100 years ago) and finished in the AP top-25 twice. We don't have mountains, we don't have beaches, we don't have great weather, we don't have a thriving metropolis. We have... corn. Cripes, our state gets confused with Idaho/Ohio on a regular basis by adults. What about 18-year-old kids?
The fact is that recruiting will always be an issue for Iowa State. So quit complaining about it. Its the low-hanging fruit. Its like picking on the fat kid at recess. That is why I am making this thread my *****.
Can we then on the flip side of this not pretend like every unranked tom and **** is the next jake knott.
Yeah, because the last two guys who had no profiles when they committed were Dondre Daley and Nigel Tribune--and we all know how much a waste of talent THEY turned out to be!

I can't believe that some people are still complaining about CPR signing two star players. I have a question for you.Do you consider Oklahoma State, or K-State, to have had more success on the field than we do, to have had more national publicity than we have?
