People were so tired of David Johnson that they started to fall down in front of him hoping he would trip over their bodies. His last touchdown was all she wrote.

I may be off here but how many different offensive philosophies have we been through lately. A certain amount of change every year is a bad thing. When Missouri was good its because they had the same staff for 8 years and could recruit to their system. Coaches don't have time to do that anymore. So they tinker all the time trying to catch lightning and get stuck middling around even if their talent level is better. If they can win almost immediately they're shown the door sooner rather than later.
And I know many of you think we've given time to get it right but coaches all know even 6 and 7 wins don't keep you safe anymore. It makes it hard for them to stay on course with their plan.

Rhoads signed a 10 year, $20 million contract after the 2011 season. I'd say he's pretty "safe."
Kinda think he was referring to recruiting 2 star players out of Fla and Tx who don't have the fire to play, unlike the UNI kids. And I agree with him. How many players do we have like David Johnson?
You mean those supposedly great running backs who all averaged 4.4 yards/carry or more, but each got at least 13 less carries than our quarterback, who averaged like 3.7/carry? Huh. I am thinking that if we took those 21 carries and gave them to those running backs, it would have been a different game. Probably would have done a better job of wearing out the defense, and there's a lot more explosive play potential there than at our QB position.
Richardson is mobile and that's great. But if that's the case, roll him out, move the pocket, but only let him run on scrambles when a play breaks down. He's about the 6th most effective runner out of the backfield we have on the team, there is no reason he should be carrying the ball as much as the top 5 combined.
OMG, another recruiting thread. You people are so annoying. This isn't a recruiting issue as much as an experience issue and perhaps a bit of coaching issue. When was the last ISU team that won a bunch of games with freshman/sophmores? Lets not forget, Watson was a huge loss last night as Sam was getting schooled all night. No question our LB core was getting blown up. But once again, no one besides George has any real game time experience and truth be told, Miller has no business starting. I feel Brackins is a year out. I did expect more from George. Also, as everyone expected, our DL was basically a non factor. None showed they could penetrate into the backfield. They seemed content to shove against the OLine of UNI and that's about it. Offensively, I was happy with Sam for the most part and our running backs to a certain extent. Farniok going down early was an obvious huge setback. Our inability to involve the TEs very much was also a bit troubling. Our young WR core needs to get better, need to find open gaps in the defense. Loved what Bundrage, Coleman and Ecby looked good, but more need to step up and they need to be consistant. I think the offense will only improve, but the defense needs to take big strides for us to compete at all. Our offense has proven time and time again that they will not be high scoring. It is what it is. Sorry for no paragraph seperations but IE10 sucks.
A bad season this year and a drop in ticket sales followed by another subpar year and his buyout is cheaper than the potential lost revenue. A coaching change generates excitement in the fan base for what could be. Since its a dollars driven deal safe is always relative.
C'mon man! You, along with all the others who are bashing recruiting efforts, have to be smarter than what you alluding to in regards to ISU's situation. Look at our offer list. It is littered with 3 and 4 star guys.............WHO DON'T WANNA BE IN AMES! It's not that better (higher rated players) are not being offered, its that there are far greener pastures in the land of college football. All of you star recruiters out there should definitely send your resumes in though, and show em how its done!
Disagree. It IS about recruiting...everything always comes back to recruiting. Staff had three years to find replacements for Knott and Klein. And the best they can do is Jevohn Miller? Fail.
That doesn't change the fact in the least that our QB does NOT need to carry the ball 21 (or even 17, if the sacks do count) times in a game. We have 5 running backs who can be productive. Why we would call even one play that has the QB running I don't know. Mobile QB's are great, but their job, first and foremost, is to throw. Running is secondary.

Agree 100%. People who still say it's not about recruiting are idiots. There is a reason why schools like Alabama and Ohio State have freshman that contribute immediately. They recruit guys that are physical enough to play immediately.
While there are some diamonds in the rough and some projects that work out well, the higher rated recruits usually do better. When you're a Big 12 team that finishes only ahead of Kansas in recruiting, there's a reason they're usually the only team we finish ahead of most years. If you fans fail to see that, you're ignorant and/of too much of a homer. Bottom line is recruiting needs to pick up or Rhoads will never win more than 7 games in a season.
They don't wanna be in Ames but they wanna be in Cedar Falls? Both towns are dumps but I would give Ames the edge. We got beat in every aspect of the game Uni has a better team, thus they have better players or coaching? Our O line had 15 plus pounds on their D line yet where getting pushed around. It's because we have recruited a guy on his size or potential. Not his talent.
You're kind of emphasizing my point here. People are griping about recruiting 2 star guys all to often. UNI has a bunch no star guys and still whooped *****. They brought the heart along with a sound game plan. We brought the ***** with a shoddy game plan. They were the better team last night...but I think we beat them 3 out of 4 times.
We never get a coach who even attempts to do what Bill Snyder does at K-State, or how Riley started it at Oregon State, or the coaches at Washington State have. Charlie Weiss has recruited 24 Juco players in his last two classes at KU. I think they will have more talent than us. We only ever seem to get 4 or five in a class. Some coaches really understand that you have great athletes and that a nice weight room isn't going to make many guys with Sun Belt Conference talent Big 12 caliber players no matter what.
As a long time observer of Iowa State football while living in Columbia MO my perspective on Iowa State is recruiting and player development has always been their downfall. I would suggest patience. You just completed a state of the art football facility. Give it time. It took Missouri a few years after opening the Devine Center for recruiting to pick up but it did and the facility was a big reason.
I can tell you one thing. Paul Rhoades would have plenty of job interviews if Iowa State fired him and a lot of Missouri fans would welcome him in Columbia. He can coach football.
