Parrish: What if Johnson would've never left

He wouldn't of got picked up by anybody if it weren't for GMAC he would of been at some mid major scoring 20 points

Thats what kills me. Someone gave him a chance and as soon as he got some recognition he bolted. Its almost as if he just needed to get that spotlight for his plans to move on.

After a few years noone will care about WJ anymore. It just still stings a little now. We have plenty of seasons ahead with Kansas screwing us over in play that will help us forget. ;)

Yeah me too

No Respect

He also admitted changing his coaching style and player relations after Wes left...
In other words, he might have softened up a little bit. For people with a weak spine, like Wes, they sometimes need to be coddled just a tad.
That being said, I'm happy he changed and seems to be relating to the players better.

This is clearly water under the bridge but what always baffled me is why so many on this site put 100% of the blame for his departure on WJ and totally exonerated GM in the matter.

Wesley was a very popular player with his teammates here - he's also very popular at Syracuse. That tells me something was amiss between GMac and Wesley that we don't know about.

Add to the "what if..."

What if Taggart hadn't transferred? We could have theoretically had Taggart, WJ, and Brackins in our frontcourt this year.

No ****, thats why he left. But it appears that the others were able to sac up and realize that McD might know something they dont.

You have no idea if that's true.

If whats true? That they stayed? Because Brackins and Staiger couldnt have gone if they wanted?

Look Im not saying McD was 100 percent innocent. Every one of us on this earth need to improve how we interact with others, but honestly what was so bad that WJ couldnt take it? McD doesnt appear to be a huge *****. If Bobby Knight could pull in recruits, then what the hell did McD do?

Your claim that all Wesley wanted was the "spotlight," and moved on to get more of it. You have no proof of that - he may have left for a good reason.
Again, players here say that they loved him - he was a great teammate.

Syracuse and the famed Jim Boeheim? Someone really put the bug in his ear to leave. I just cant believe this was all WJ and a beef he had with McD.

Maybe it's just me, but when your player just up and quits the team, and then you travel all the way down to Texas to try and beg him to stay...that tells me there's some guilt driving that trip.

That tells me that he needed him to stay to fuel the teams progress. Not that he was feeling guilt. WJ was an integral part to this team at the time. What would you do?

And just as you said above, you have NO idea whether this is true. McDermott could very well have travelled all the way down to Texas because he was legitimately concerned about a player that seemingly disappeared in the middle of the night. That tells me there is a caring, considerate Coach. See, there can always be two versions of every story. And based on the timeline and events as clearly laid out in McDermott's press conference, I am much more inclined to give him the benefit of doubt over Wesley Johnson.

You do realize that even if ISU were to win the national championship this year guys like cyclonenum1 and Tornado Man are just going to continue hating McDermott because he didn't do it last year...
