Painter press conf post ISU

I love Toure comments about guys who review players don't know what they are talking about.

Basically say that kid is NBA talent

Yeah, but last summer wasn't he newly arrived in the States, and scouts hadn't yet discovered him?

That's what I recall from the time, but my memory suks, so maybe I'm wrong. I do remember, though, thinking this kid has incredible quickness, like I'd never seen before.

Hey, it's difficult to forget the lightning moments that strike through your eyes to blitz your brain.

Yeah, I think one thing he said especially stood out to me. “They (ISU) embraced the physicality of the game.” My favorite thing about our team is how we don’t ***** about fouls either way. Purdue is one of those teams that is constantly ********, or at least they did today. I got fouled, I didn’t foul, etc. don’t complain, adapt.
Yes, and their all american point guard was the leader in that. He never had a turnover (6) that was his fault, most of the time he "was fouled" and he never fouled. Quit ******** and play the game.

Thing I think is interesting is Painter never even mentioned Tamin. Don't think was negative on Tamin as ISU just having too many weapons.
I think he’s answering from the lens of what they scouted for vs what jumped out in the game.

Our plan was shut down their main 3 guys and make the other guys beat us, and they missed their 3s.
Their plan was take our main 3 out of their game and all these other guys won the game.

Jefferson hitting 3s is mentioned because they were gonna live with those. They had him scouted to force those turnovers

I think Iowa state found him really early and he probably wasn’t putting up crazy box scores.
There was something on William’s and Blum where he was showing flashes ay some tourney with scouts a recruiter asked “who’s recruiting him” “Iowa State” “Oh, That makes sense.”

There’s also some interview Otz mentioned they almost even took him last year.

I said it elsewhere, at his current trajectory there's a good chance he's gone after this year. Next to no chance we get him for more than 2.
I see a guy like Jrue Holiday as the ceiling for Toure, which is saying something. He has played really well so far. He will need to keep getting better with his handle, passing, and shot, but results-wise, he has been excellent. The thing that makes me currently projecting him to stay in school is the amount of $$ he can get in college these days along with the deep draft. It would be nice for NBA teams to see his shooting volume increase and to see him star in college. But who knows, with how well the team has played so far, if we have a special season, all bets are off. Defensively, he is already highly impactful and he is getting better quick at offense.

Now that I've thought about it a while, I think Painter's compliments of Nate Heise were dual purpose. One, because Nate is a guy who could start almost anywhere and star at most places, and he was all over the floor making winning plays, and two, because he wanted to send a message to some of his own role players that he wants them to be like that.

He can't get any money. Foreign players are on student visas which limits where they can receive income from. NiL/rev share is not allowed.

Say he stays all four years is that the way it is all the way through?
