Pacquiao v. Mayweather

Mayweather, UD. Pacquiao's weakness is counterpunchers (like Marquez). Well, Mayweather is the best counterpuncher in the business and makes great in-fight adjustments. If Pacquiao does not get to him early (first 4 rounds), Mayweather will have him figured out and cruise the rest of the way. Don't think Pacquiao hits that much harder than Maidana, so power might not be much of an advantage. Pacquiao's power is due to accumulation of power shots, as he lands a lot of them off fast combinations. Don't think he'll hit Mayweather enough for that to happen.

Like someone else mentioned, one of Mayweather's weaknesses is non-conventional fighters. Punching from different angles will help Pacquiao, just like it did for Maidana. He should also try to get Mayweather on the ropes as much as possible (easier said than done), as Floyd's defense is worse against the ropes and he tries to get cute with his dodging and not keeping his hands up when cornered. Should be a good fight. I would say I'm 80% confident of a Mayweather win.

Totally agree, but Floyd doesn't have near the KO power that Marquez has.

I don't think there's a big power difference between Manny and Maidana either, but the difference is Pac's speed and weird angles. Power is much more effective when the other guy doesn't see it coming.

If you remember the Mayweather v. Mosley fight, Sugar Shane rocked him early in the fight. And Mosley was never a guy with one punch power. If Pac catches him the same way, Floyd crumbles. But I agree that the likelihood of that isn't great due to Floyd's great defense.

Spot on, although I will say that the Maidana fight might have been a small tune up to this fight. Similar to Pacquiao, Maidana throws from just about every angle. In the end, I think Floyd's ability to adapt and adust will be the x-factor. That's why I'll be watching to see how Mayweather reacts to the first clean power punch that Manny lands. If he can handle the power without buckling, it will be all over for Pacquiao. Manny needs to hurt him early.

Once Mayweather times him and figures out his patterns, Manny will have trouble catching him. The one thing Pacquiao has that other power punchers Floyd has fought before did not have is footspeed. He'll need that to shorten the ring and set good traps for Mayweather. Should be an epic fight.

Yep. I just hope it's not a boring fight. If Floyd figures him out, runs, lands the occasional straight right and covers pulling for the decision, I fear it might be. Floyd is the best defensive fighter since Bernard Hopkins. Makes for a decent record, but not necessarily for memorable fights.

Early Hopkins was a great fighter. Second half of his career was when he turned into a defensive/dirty/holding mess. Hey, at least nobody will make a fight as boring as Chris Byrd used to.

I've never watched a boxing match in my life but even I'm excited about this fight. I just hope I find somewhere to watch it.

Boxing will continue to fade into obscurity without a strong, unifying central body (like UFC) that can make the match ups that people want to see, when they want to see them. I used to be a big fan in the 80's, but there's too much dodging and too many staged wins.

Who's the staged winner for Saturday?

This is a match up that is happening 5 years too late. I'm talking about fights that were happening instead of this, as one or the other dodged each other.

You used both "Dodging" and "Staged" in your post but they mean the same thing?

What makes you say this fight is happening 5 years too late? People keep saying that but imo that's something that should be said after the fight only. Are you still going to think that when this turns out to be an epic boxing match?

Any places in Des Moines carrying this? I imagine there would be a decent cover charge.

A group of buddies and I wanted to go somewhere and watch it Saturday so I called everywhere last night. Only place in the city that will have it is Twin Peaks. It's reservation only and its $25 per person. We passed on that.

When I called BWW, the girl told me they weren't getting it because bars are being charged $5,000 minimum to have it

They are both past their prime. I'm sure it could be a great fight, but I want to see fighters at their best. I don't think these guys are.

where are you streaming it from?

I think May wins not because he is the better fighter, but because of the aura around him being undefeated blah blah blah. I think Manny comes out angry after all the trash that was said/done. I think Manny wins the first few rounds but then May figures him out and does what he does and wins split decision.

Just FYI, I am not an avid boxing fan just my thoughts on the matter.
