Will be interesting if this is true and Patterson gets sent packing. He's the main reason TCU is in the Big 12.

I've had to say that word at work before. When writing up documents for disciplinary action you have to write up exactly the wording of the infraction whether it be racial, sexual preference, or other slurs or sexually explicit language and then during disciplinary meetings you have to read it to the accused. It can be pretty uncomfortable when you have to show the employee pornographic images taken from their work computer with your female HR generalist sitting right there.

The long story is the write up about what happened isn't as bad as the headline makes it appear.

It looks a like a bunch of black players are taking Patterson's side here, and the kid who posted the original allegation might have a little Adam James to him.

Well that's a good sign if he has players backing him. The way I read that tweet from the player, he probably shouldn't have said that, but it seemed to be more of a momentary lapse vs. having any malicious intent.

Other players seem to be speaking out against the guy with original post now.

That's what I was waiting to see. Who backed the coach and who backed the player will go a long ways towards telling the whole story.
If you have a situation like Iowa where so many players and ex-players spoke out that it became impossible to ignore any longer that's one thing. It's another if you just have one or two rogue players who maybe have a different agenda and are just looking to wage a smear campaign. My immediate reaction is that this is the latter, although Patterson and the players should both get their say and the school should investigate.

I read it as though he was telling somebody else not to say that

Can’t trust any of these fundamentalists imo.

Reading the first hand account, it was pretty obvious what Patterson meant. Glad other players were around to hear it and give some further context. This day and age, it's probably smarter to use the term "n word" but it doesn't sound like this was anything like the Niko kid who first shared it was trying to imply.

That is how I read it too. That being said why would he say the full word? He could have easily just said n-word.
This is where no one should use the n word whether engine in a or r or whatever race you are.

I have the same feelings about the R word and people using the last four letters. Still same intent if you just drop a letter or two.

I don't get it. Coach P told his player to stop saying "n" word in meeting room per the tweet? Is he a racist because he told a player to quit saying a racist word? What am I missing?

Yeah, if that's how it went down I'm a little surprised that he thought it was ok to say the word regardless of the context. The n word should just be off limits, and if he used it then he's earned whatever consequences that follow, if there are any.

edit: initially I said the he deserves to be punished or disciplined if he did say the word. I changed the wording a bit because I didn't intend to suggest that he absolutely should be punished or disciplined by the university.

Based on the other tweet in this quote, sounds like he was baited into it.

Yeah even if he had no ill intent that word should not be used. To be a football coach and say that word is really dumb, especially with everything going on in the world.
