OT - Cutting Cable

Can't get KCRG in Cedar Falls with an indoor antenna. Also have a Vizio without a TV tuner. Will probably get a roof mount and a Tablo eventually. Still trying to decide if the $50 savings over Dish is worth it.

Do your research first. I had issues with KCRG and KWWL and I live in Waterloo. I went through 3 antennas before I got one that would pick those two up.

I had lunch at a Mexican restaurant today and I'm going to be laying some serious coax this afternoon!

The flat antennas are really made for picking up UHF signals. They are not designed for VHF. I have a flat antenna in DFW and it took some work to pick up WFAA 8 even though the towers are in the same location as the majority of the other major networks.

Same thing is happening to me in Eastern Iowa. I can pick up Fox and KGAN, but no KCRG, KWWL.

Hulu has dropped the price of their lowest subscription to $5.99/month for 1 year. This is only for new customers.

Not sure if it was discussed yet, but Netflix is raising the price of their HD streaming service by $1 per month ($10.99) and their 4K streaming service is jumping up $2 per month ($13.99). The price increases kick in this month for all customers.

Best streaming service, in my opinion, is Playstation Vue. But stream it over either a playstation consul or an Amazon Fire TV/Stick, not roku. it has a guide similar to traditional cable/dish services. It is $30-$50 depending on the package you get, and the best part is it is a month to month service. I suggest doing the core package for $45. It has all the ESPN's, FS1 and 2, CBS Sports Network, NBC Sports Networks, good movie channels, all the news channels, etc. They are even adding local channels. In Denver they now have all network channels except NBC, but get an antenna if you need it. They will add all the local channels soon enough. PSVue also has an unlimited cloud based DVR and will play/rewind/ff all channels up to 4 minutes even if you are not recording. I tried Sling TV too for a while and realized that they made it good enough to be enticing, but bad enough to push people back to their parent company (Dish). I do not miss Directv at all since getting PsVue and have been a subscriber for about 2 years now. Hulu and youtube have services that are worth a look now too.

A buddy is switching to Hulu Live, and I'm going to let him be the guinea pig before I make that move.

It's $40 per month and includes all the ESPN and Fox/FS1 families. Everything ISU plays on save Cyclones.TV

I have Hulu live, and its awesome....so id say go for it. Just be sure you have an HDMI cable to plug in from computer to TV, or if you have a TV that supports Hulu live, you can just use that.

I thought this thread was about going to the bathroom.

How many TV's at the same time? (btw if you've been off of sling and DTVN for 2 years you need to give them a shot again. Way better now.)

I think you can have unlimited devices viewing PsVue at the same time, they just need to be connected to your home internet connection, but I know it is at least 4. I did just try Sling again for a month this summer because I traded in my sony smart tv for an LG and didn't want to get a separate streaming device. Hated it and got a roku, then found out there is no guide for PsVue on roku and got an amazon fire tv. and love it. I have been told that Directv has drastically lowered prices, but still have the 2 year contract that I hate.

Based on the antenna websites I need something more than rabbit ears. I just didn't know if I'm better off going to the attic rather than mounting on the satellite post already on the roof.

Just mount it on the post of the dish. Wiring is already there... simple hookup. Just make sure you research what antenna will be appropriate for you.

Right. Must do research to see what you need to pick up every channel. For instance. WOI is on a low channel VHF frequency and most antennas aren't designed for that. Unless you're within five miles of the tower. I believe there's a station in the Cedar Rapids market is similar, but I can't remember which one off the top of my head. KTTC in Rochester, MN is in the same boat too.

That's my strongest station in Hudson... Sounds like you need a better antenna or different orientation.

Hudsons a long ways away from Northern CF when you're talking VHF signals. All the other locals use UHF or are close enough that a small antenna can pick them up (Channel 2 actually uses channel 29).
