One-Hit Wonders

Made it to #3 on the Hot 100 in 1988. Guess other people thought it was catchy, too.

That's also an "earworm song," cuz now it's stuck in my head. Thanks a heap...

When I read your post I immediately thought it was incorrect. I have very strong memories of hearing that song during the 1993 floods. So I Googled it and sure enough it said #3 1988. However I did a little more research and my memory is also correct. It was initially released in 1988 but wasn't a hit until included in the Benny and Joon soundtrack in 1993. Its fun when everybody's right!

ok, to whoever left me the reputation comment (how can I check those!! I know I can but I can't remember!) yes, yes I was joking about Rebecca Black. I'll include the jimlad next time ;)

It was me. I was joking about your RB suggestion. You can check rep comments by going up to the very top of the page, next to your login name if you hit settings, about halfway down the page will be your recent reps if you've already looked at them. Otherwise click on the notifications to go to new reps.

thank you! I knew I'd seen it before. I had clicked on the notification and clicked out before I read the name.

"Cruel to be kind" Nick Lowe
"Beach Baby" First Class
"Don't you know what love is" Touch
"(You really) Rock Me" Nick Gilder.......although he did have "hot child in the city" so I don't know if he counts.

I forgot Edie Brickell & the New Bohemians - "What I Am." Didn't Paul Simon fund that album for her as a gift?

It's hard to think of Nick Lowe as a one hit wonder. He did have a couple more charted hits as a solo artist and also with Rockpile. I was a big fan back in the day. He did a lot better on the UK charts. I remember Ragin' Eyes getting quite a bit of airplay on MTV and I personally though it was a sure fire top 10 song but the fickle US public was more interested in Debbie Gibson or something. Also, who can forget all the wedding receptions where his "I Knew the Bride When She Used to Rock and Roll" was always played. Yeah, Cruel to be Kind was his only top 10 he just doesn't "feel" One Hit Wonderish to me.

I always liked this song. Yes, I'm a Zappa freak!
